Prog Rock and Metal

Everybody loves Prog rock and Prog metal right?

Well Lets talk about our favorite Prog bands.

Trauma 06-11-2005 06:34 PM

Yes, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead.
I'm not a big fan of Phish, sadly.

PhishFood 06-11-2005 06:37 PM

Well I don't call Phish Prog really, more like jam rock... Pink floyd and Radiohead have to be mentioned, but there's alot of great bands out there that don't get enough credit for their progressiveness, Wishbone ash, Uraih heap, and to a lesser extent King crimson.

riseagainstrocks 06-11-2005 06:52 PM

now please clarify, what is "prog rock"

PhishFood 06-11-2005 06:56 PM

Man, I'm not the one to ask to define anything, I'm so horrible at describing things, It's Progressive, Think like Genesis, Radiohead, damnit, Somebody jump in here and define it.

Trauma 06-11-2005 07:25 PM

Prog rock stands for progressive rock.
It defines bands that try to move away from the limitations of popular rock sounds of the time and move in new unexplored directions where different forms or sounds of rock can be found. Sub-genres include art-rock, symphonic rock, and prog metal.
But yeah, I WOULD classify most of Phish as Prog rock.

PhishFood 06-11-2005 07:56 PM

Very good Description, Well Yeah Phish has alot of progessive elements. but they didn't really exist in the Progressive hayday

SATCHMO 06-11-2005 08:17 PM

I have to agree with phishfood on this one. Phish is very progressive, but in a different way than what characterizes the progressive rock genre.

PhishFood 06-11-2005 08:23 PM

Generic Agreement:

Let us move on what is Progressive, What's your favorite prog band?

SATCHMO 06-11-2005 08:32 PM

And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead
Edit: and The Mars Volta too, of course
