Jimi Hendrix

Most Rock music fans are also fans of Jimi Hendrix. What are your favorite songs and albums by him? I'm a big fan of most of his classics like "Purple Haze", "All Along the Watch Tower" and "Red House". I've got a few of his albums too.

Drifting_Angel 05-21-2004 04:12 AM

As I mentioned in the other Jimi Hendrix board, I like:
Littlw Wing
Purple Haze
All Along the WAtchtower
Drifting
Angel
One Rainy Wish
Voodoo Child (slight return)
and more.

I liked how he didn't stick to one genre of music. It allowed me to appreciate other styles of music :)

Hendrix

ive gotten into Jimmy Hendrix a lot lately- foxey lady, crosstown traffic, all along the watchtower, voodoo chile and manic depression have to be his best songs. what do you think of the great man and is there anyone who is (or has the potential to be) like him around today?

[MERIT] 12-15-2004 12:39 PM

he was a great guitar player and very influencial in the history of rock. he probably wasnt the best guitar player of all time, but he is definitely up there.

bonzodrummer 12-15-2004 09:28 PM

all i have to say is, "wow" that explains hendrix, the greatest guitarist, ever!!

TheBig3 12-15-2004 10:43 PM

Depends what aspect you're talking about. A frontman who plays guitar and advances the instrument to a level unparalleled before? Probably not. To advance it higher today would take an astronomical amount of skill as well as an "outside the box" thought pattern. If thats the case I would say Buckethead is the man. But he doesn't sing.

Its really really tough to say. I mean, there isn't another pete townshend around today and I think he blows. Its hard to have "another" of anyone because usually they are so similar and are mocked to death and berated for such plagerism.

I think Jack White will be huge, and I love that people can't get past his voice, because it fends off the bandwagon riders who would says hes great to be cool and ruin the band.

No one can ever be as good as hendrix was.....he had his own style of guitar playing, like it had JIMI HENDRIX written all over it, very beautiful songs he made like angels had blessed him to play as well as he did....no one will ever be as good as he was

iceplayer744 12-22-2004 11:03 PM

No one is gonna be "like him". he revolutionized rock with the combination of blues, jazz, rock and soul. there was nothing like it at the time and he made it into something awesome.

dog 12-24-2004 08:21 AM

Are you kidding ?
He was terrible at Woodstock , It was the first public performance by the Band of Gypsies. They had virtually no rehersal & most of the band had no clue what was going on for most of the time & a lot of it was made up from improvised jamming. His Isle Of Wight show is a much much better album.

Why don't we all just give up right now?

No wonder people think music today is never as good as it used to be, with negative attitudes like that. Give bands you haven't heard, or maybe haven't even formed yet a chance, don't shoot them down as doomed to fail before you even listen. Maybe someone will be as good, maybe someone will be better. Maybe someone already is and you just haven't heard them yet.

I hate all these 'wern`t the old days great , everything now is crap' posts

Sweet Jane 01-15-2005 04:35 PM

I know, I can only assume people don't look hard enough. Possibly because they're locked in their room listening to Hendrix albums.

you have a point but some people simply prefer older music. its a matter of taste. i personally prefer older music but i still love some new stuff thats around- every era has its great bands. theres people around now like jack white, johnny greenwood and matt bellamy who are brilliant guitar players- yet i still think hendrix is better. its not an anti-modern thread, its just for people who prfer the older stuff.

stonedpath 02-28-2005 05:27 PM

Jimi Hendrix rocks my ****in world...

Sneer 03-01-2005 02:56 PM

Jimi!!!

LOVE Jimi Hendrix. i have cds and shirts, not to mention total respect.

i like all of Jimi's genius, i can't think of one song i don't like. but i exspecially like Red House, mostly because it gives me that layed back feeling of hanging out in a late night bar, listening to Jimi play that sweet guitar and sipping steaming cappicinos.
and Foxey Lady makes me feel sexy.lololo. but thats besides the point.
but really i love all of his music.
and specially his uniqueness.
that was his best feature, his individuality. i respect that.

peace,

CAUSE I FOUND ALL THAT SHIMMERS IN THIS WORLD IS SURE TO FADE. AWAY. AGAIN.

He was a genius, a f**king genius! No comparable guitarplayer on this whole f**king planet!!!

And he encourages me, cuz he couldn't read notes either...

Now you'd probably call him a tramp
But it goes a little deeper than that
He's a Highway Chile...

ish 05-27-2005 10:35 PM

He is definately a rock god, I've never hear anyone play guitar as good as him. He knows his s***
