Ya, Lenny isn't too hard. I could probably learn SRV's Little Wing, it'd take me a while, though. It'd be easier to just know the notes he's using and do a little improv. Learning note for note is a strenuous process. The speed would probably be the hardest part.
I think SRV mostly stayed in the pentatonic, Hendrix did too but I think he ventured out of it more than SRV. Here's a rare track. Brilliant piece. Some great feedback experimentation. He was so far ahead of his time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ySpEjSLmmI Here is a display of where his music was heading before he died http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfD52...eature=related Last edited by blastingas10; 03-09-2012 at 06:41 PM. |

You guys should record yourselves covering Lenny or some hendrix. Didn't know y'all could play like that. Im always interested in hearing what others can do on guitar when it comes to covering their favorite artists. I know rezz is good but you guys should get in on the action as well. I know for me..it took me a little while to get the timing down right on Lenny. I thought I would never figure little wing out but eventually got ok with it. That vids posted in my thread. I'll see about doing a Lenny cover and put that up some time soon. You guys sing as well? Maybe y'all could give me some tips on some improv development. Ive been working on trying to embellish the mixolidian scale in with the major scales, all whilst never abandoning the pentatonic during my solos. Probaly just takes hours upon hours of practice but maybe y'all could give me some pointers.

Neither venture out of the pentatonic as much as Santana, though.
I'm probably not as good as y'all. I've just been playing like 2 years now. I have no way of recording or I would post some vids. I just learned how to play 'Hey Baby(New Rising Sun)', it's not hard but it grooves like no other. |

Also I have a question. I have learned most of the dorian postitions on the fretboard and am working on my speed playing them. My problem is finding licks that incorporate the scales/mode that sound different than the blatent maj/min pentatonic. All I have thought of doing is finding artists like Santana and such that are known for playing in it and trying to flesh out some of the licks I hear on the record. I guess I could also just search youtube for some, but I feel like their must be a better way. Any advice?
