Serious question just so I can get some perspective. Name 5 bands that you really like.

Hard to imagine liking The Band and The Kinks and yet totally disliking some of the other bands he's listed.

I like but don't love Animal Collective. Other than that I love all those bands.
Spiritualized, the Mekons, Built to Spill, Talking Heads, Sleater-Kinney if I'm limiting myself to bands and not solo artists (so no Gram Parsons, Sam Cooke, John Coltrane). |

For myself (and various friends), when these bands were in their prime, Journey and Styx ran neck and neck for the band we made the most fun of. I always gave journey the edge as being slightly the worse of the two. Mostly it had to do with the addition of Steve Perry's vocals from the 4th album on. Boston, Foreigner and Kansas, while not in my personal top three at the time were better received by myself and my cohorts.

I gotta go with the Styx, all the rest have songs that I still listen to, but I never really could get into Styx's music as much compared to the others. None of them were really my favorite bands or anything, but I still listen to their music
