I'd go ahead and recommend Rubber Soul if only cause it's my personal favorite of theirs and cause it's a good transition between the old and new Beatles. |
As well as Revolver I would recommend some songs. "Strawberry Fields Forever" is essential, as is "Paperback Writer". "Happiness is a Warm Gun" is one of their best songs but I wouldn't check out The White Album until you actually like the band, it's hard to get into compared to the others.

^ Yeah those are good. Also
Norwegian Wood Get Back Mother Nature's Son Here There and Everywhere A Day in the Life Are some of my other favorites. |

Funnily enough I've actually had the white album on vinyl for years. It's the only Beatles album I've ever owned, though obviously I've heard most or all of them at throughout my life. |
'Let it be' is a great song. 'Come Together' is one that I don't like all that much anymore.
Considering that he just recommended Rubber Soul, listen to the song 'in my life'. It's one of my favorites. There's a great little Bach inspired piano piece in the song, it sounds great. I'd recommend The White Album. Give the song 'long, long, long' a listen. It's a pretty unique song. |
Ticket to Ride actually made me come around when I thought there wasn't much about the Beatles I liked when I first heard them. It's accessible as any of their pop singles, but it has a quirkiness to it that I really enjoy. It may do the same for you, Janszoon.
As for albums, Revolver and Abbey Road would be the two I would check out, along with bits and pieces of the White Album. The B-side medley is one my favorite pieces of music by anyone. Really well done and brilliant considering it's throwaway tracks and was never meant to be used as a single piece. As for stand alone tracks worth checking out, I mentioned Ticket to Ride, but I would also say... -Hey Bulldog -It's All Too Much -I've Got a Feeling -Girl -I Want You (She's So Heavy) -Rain -She's Leaving Home It's a decent sampling of some of their lesser songs, by Beatles standards anyway, so maybe that will help. |

If I had one recommendation it would be to listen to "Flying" it has that slow guitar playing then turns strangely turn avant-garde I've seen it accredited as one of the first Space Rock on wiki I don't how true the connection is but the first part is slightly like Duster. If you like Duster or Pram you might like this tune. :) Quote:
