Nice story. I was 3 1/2 when he died, way too soon. At least he died on a high note with a hit song and new solo and Traveling Wilbury albums. BTW my first concert was Kokomo era Beach Boys.

I feel pretty lucky that I saw him when I did. It was 85 or 86, so probably one of his last tours. I don't think I was aware of it at the time but in retrospect it is nice that he was in the midst of a little bit of a comeback when he died. I do remember thinking at the time that it was hard to imagine that one day people from my favorite band dying. At that age my favorite band was Pink Floyd and, well, two of them are gone now.

In regards to older artists dying that's why I brought my daughter to see Neil Young with me this past April. She was clearly the youngest person at the concert, but I think it's important that a child's first concert is by a memorable artist not a throw away.
