Top 10 Classic Rock albums?
What do you guys think are the top 10 classic rock albums? Why? What is the greatest classic rock band? The Doors? The Stones? The Who? AC/DC?
|
Classic rock is more of a radio format than a genre of music. It's like having a "Top 10 Easy Listening albums". If you went off of what is played on the classic rock radio station where I live, the top ten would consist of Journey, Foreigner, and Supertramp.

Does Led Zeppelin 1 and 2, and Pink Floyd Wish you were here qualify?

Sure, there are plenty of detractors now, sure the critics hated them initially, sure the music is predictable and played out by this point; but that's because every other rock band that's sprung up since the 70s has been directly influenced by them. Whether or not they were trying to 1up them like so many hair metal bands, or trying to decry their worth to society and culture like so many punk bands who wanted to strip away the excess and debauchery of the arena rock largesse, it was all still as a result of the one and only. I also agree with CaptainCaptain that Classic Rock is more of a radio format than genre, my local 'classic' rock station routinely plays Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. A more proper definition of Classic Rock is needed to better organize a Top 10. |
When Soundgarden Rocks asks for classic rock albums, I`m 99% certain that he`s referring to essential rock albums so here are 10 essentials from the 1960`s and Soundgarden if you already have any of these, I`ll replace them with other albums. All these albums have 1960`s release dates, I`ll suggest some 70`s stuff later.
Beatles- Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Beatles- Abbey Road Beatles- White Album Kinks- The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society Kinks- Something Else By the Kinks Buffalo Springfield- Buffalo Springfield Again Byrds- Fifth Dimension Byrds- Younger Than Yesterday Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin I Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin II Free- Tons of Sobs Doors- Doors Doors- Strange Days Love- Forever Changes Jimi Hendrix- Are You Experienced?
