The Rolling Stones - their best album?
I was surprised not to find a topic already on this. What do you think is their best album?
If you choose "other" you have terrible taste. Sticky Fingers for me. |
I like Sticky Fingers the most. I think Exile on Main St. is a bit more consistent but the first half of Sticky Fingers is just so good.
Exile is one of my favourites but Stick Fingers is their most complete album, I think.
Some Girls, I like the way they infused punk rock and disco.
Sticky Fingers for me, with Some girls at a close second.
I like Exile On Main Street the best, but I'm also a huge fan of Beggars Banquet and Sticky Fingers.
Exile or Let It Bleed. Let It Bleed is their best selection of songs imo but Exile is such as fascinating album and has such an interesting history. So Exile.

Let It Bleed is the only Stones I still listen to much anymore.
Aftermath for me. The combination of the UK and US editions are to me the highlight of the Brian Jones era with plenty of interesting instrumental backgrounds blending in with the surroundings with ease as well as being the first full album of Jagger/Richards songs.

I can hear why GHS has fans - No question that "Angie" is certainly one of the finest 70's Rock ballads (Great winter-time listening...or nice for getting your date into the back area of that super van, and I meant that in the best way possible) and "Heartbreaker" is one mighty fine jam, but the album to me was the start of the Post-Exile Stones that had some solid tracks, but just did not connect all the way with me. "Winter" is another fine track, "Dancing With Mr. D" had some great imagery in the lyrics, and there's "Star Star," a great soundtrack to a Decadent scene in the 70's. It captured a flavor, and Keith always sounds great, but I'm more into the Brian Jones era to Exile.
Not going to lie, I find the way Jagger sings the name "Angie" to be quite grating.
I have 3 albums rated the same on RYM: Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers, and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll. The first two would probably duke it out for top honor, but I'm not prepared to make that call.
The title track from Let It Bleed is quite possibly my favourite Stones song, so I'm gonna go for that.

Exile on Main Street is by far their best album. Their most complete album.
Sort of a tie between "Let it bleed" and "Satanic majesties", and just to be contrary I vote "other" in favour for the latter. (And because "Satanic" is as underrated as "Bleed" is overrated).
Sticky Fingers
Exile has gotten a tremendous amount of recognition over the past year, but Sticky Fingers has always been my favorite. No matter what I'm doing, when the opening riff to Can't You Hear Me Knockin' comes on, my attention instantly gets directed to the sound.
Exile is kinda overrated for me.
Too many plodding mid-tempo songs. |
I like all of the choices listed, but if I had to pick just one, "Let It Bleed" would be it.

I'd personally have to go with either Exile (which was what I voted for), Beggars Banquet, or Let It Bleed. Great stuff!
I've been playing around in Open G lately. Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, and Honkytonk Woman! Love those songs. Sympathy for the Devil is my next favorite and Painted Black.
Alright, new to the forum :)
Aftermath is by far my favourite stones album followed by let it bleed. Surprised to see Aftermath with so little votes. |
FFS, I just voted Beggars Banquet (no contest for me) and I'm the only vote?! :usehead:
my mind is still open - haven't heard Goat's Head Soup or Aftermath yet
Gimmie Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are not even alone why Let It Bleed is the best. I actually get chills from the intro to Gimmie Shelter...it's chillingly good.
Sticky Fingers was amazing
While realistically not their best album Beggars Banquet has always struck a chord with me.

I'm surprised Sticky Fingers is the top. My favorites go like this:
1. Exile on Main St. 2. Let it Bleed in a very close second, could beat Exile if I was in a different mood is how close they are. 3. Beggars Banquet 4. Some Girls 5. Between the Buttons(US Release has Ruby Tuesday, British doesnt for some reason) 6. Their Satanic Majesties |
For me it was "Let it Bleed" it was a pivotal time for the Stones and this album reflects their new direction.

I love me some Exile! Who's with me? :afro:
It would have to be Exile On Main Street which just has so many powerful, atmospheric songs.
Yup, would go with "Exile".
Personally, I thought "Sticky Fingers" was a decent album, but over rated. |
