To me, Sticky Fingers is a great album. It was the sound that seriously kept them going after what happened in 1969 that would have killed off the momentum of many other bands. It was very energetic. I can understand that it can be viewed as over-rated, especially with a few songs being played over and over ("Brown Sugar" - I wonder if Bar Bands still have a habit of playing it), but as it is it's very strong to my ears.
Maybe not my Stones era (that will still have to be The 60's), but both Sticky Fingers and the far better Exile remain my favorite Mick Taylor era albums. |
Exile On Main Street, it was simply amazing!

I think Sticky Fingers was their tightest and therefore best album. Honourable mentions to the underrated Satanic Majesties' and Let It Bleed.
|
really digging Between the Buttons and December's Children at the moment
|
Gotta say Exile On Main St. It's so varied. Sweet Virginia and Rocks Off are two great, great tracks.

I voted for Exile On Main Street. But Sticky Fingers is a close second

Make no mistake it's "Exile On Main Street " due to the shear volume of different styles of music that the Rolling Stones covered on the album. Country, rock, pop, and blues all showed up on this album and I would propose that it took 30 years to actually appreciate the shear enormity of what was presented there. There was so much going on back then I don't really think it sunk in. After all it was greeted with mixed reviews by the music journalists at the time of it's release which looking back on their reviews now one must just shake their head in disbelief............
I would also point out that the songs that did not make the cut for the album were just as good as the ones that were pressed for the album. |
I like Exiles raw straight up rock and roll. "Got to scrape the **** right off your shoes".
|
Exile is great, but I prefer poppier side of them so Between the Buttons. Buy still, all of their album that were released between 1965-1972 are friggin' great.
|
Let it Bleed - their most filler-free album.
