It did mention them on the Wikipedia page I linked to. I didn't claim The Beatles were the first, but they were before The Rolling Stones.

And I agree with Unknown Soldier what matters is the success of the effort. Paint it Black I don't like that much, too repetitive and simple. Far too long for the music in it. Harrison did some interesting ones like 'Love You To' on Revolver, which I think is quite a successful effort.
