The Doors vs. Creedence Clearwater Revival
I wanted to make a poll on two of my favorite American bands that came out in the mid 60's, both are from California; and their popularity and career span are about the same. In a way they are evenly match but each band projected a very different persona. Jim Morrison was a poet/sex symbol and John Fogerty was a down to Earth singer/guitar player.
So who do you like better The Doors or Creedence Clearwater Revival Last edited by Neapolitan; 07-31-2009 at 09:52 PM. |

the Doors for me, not so much because of Jim Morrison, tbh, i don't really care too much about him, but because of the music that the rest of the group did.

Because Vs threads pop up like epidemics on this forum. Someone starts one and then a few days later the forum is smothered in them. Which is why we have limits on them.
With this one the link between the two bands seems tenuous at best and I don't really see why these two bands need to be compared.

Urban you have to be nuts if you can't notice the similarities.
I mean, they were both most popular in the 60s, they had long hair, get played on the radio a lot, they both came from California and uh...... their frontman's name started with a J and uh.......... |

Yeah pointless. CCR was an AM band with alot of hits. The Doors had maybe 2 or 3 hits on AM. In that time period FM radio was just evolving. Doors were mainly heard on FM "underground stations". I don't think the word genre had even been coined yet in those days. If it had, those two bands would not have been in the same one. Back in those days we had rock music. That was it. That was the phrase.

Two completely different bands in every sense and beyond comparison, so from that point of view the comparison is pointless. CCR were a classic Californian rock/swamp rock band of the era who were very mainstream and socially accepted as good guys. Whereas the Doors were very much a dark psychedelic/acid rock outfit who instead of singing about love and peace sang about the darker side of things. In fact the only bands similiar to them at the time were probably Velvet Underground, a comparison could be made there and even the proto punk of Iggy Pop and the Stooges could be included just for their sheer impact.
