I can get behind Dylan being a better musician/poet/songwriter, but I get a much deeper sense of emotional honesty from Young's songwriting than I do from Dylan's. Dylan rarely hits me too deeply. That's not to say that he doesn't at all, but with young there seems to be much more that I can relate to experience wise and his poignant style seems to affect me on a much deeper level than Dylan does.

have you heard the "Blood on the Tracks" album?

every single track is heart-wrenchingly painful

it was Dylan's "divorce" album

It's one of my favorite Dylan albums, the lyrics are gut-wrenching, I feel you on that, but the emotion in his voice, it just never really reflects the subject matter in my opinion. But listen to Jerry Garcia sing Twist of Fate from Blood on the Tracks and it seems like so much more depth is added to the song.

Young, on the other hand, I hear the sincerity in his voice on a track like A Man Needs a Maid. The emotional honesty in his voice combined with the facetiousness of the lyrics actually give the song depth and meaning that seem to be missing from just the lyrics alone.

I can understand that you get more feeling from Neil. His voice is really whiny and just sounds sad. I think Neil is a little more genuine and bob is more artistic.

But I still connect more with bob. His music really touches me more than neils, his voice does too. Dylan Is one of my favorite vocalists ever. I understand that he technically doesn't sing great, but there's something beneath the surface of his voice that is really great. I'm a believer that "less is more".

Blood on the tracks is probably the best album to listen to if you want to get really emotional with bob. "The freewheeling" has some pretty emotional tracks. As well as "desire" and "oh mercy".

Neil is really great but I think Bob is way better at writing.

Its funny you mention that, Dylan once said that Garcia could find things in Dylans music that he himself could not.

A lot of people like to say that they like Dylan songs when someone else sings them. I don't what that's all about. I think Dylan is one of the greatest vocalists ever. He was a chameleon with his voice, he could express so much with it, different moods and feelings. He was a master of vocal phrasing and intonation. He had a very distinctive voice. Sometimes less is more and I'll take his voice over someone like robert plant any day
