Stoner Rock doesn't pertain to a band that sits around smoking shit all day and releasing ****ty beach music that they pass off as Ska. Stoner rock has elements of Psychedelia with few overdubs-an almost 'Live' sound and also touches on Blues with extended jams.

That is a good definition of Pink Floyd - I heard them discribed as Stoner and Space Rock and Prog Rock

well I thought the song, Stars by Hum, was Space Rock, I didn't know Space Rock had such a strict criteria

Hum: Stars *Live*

if it's not Space Rock then what is it???

This is Stoner Rock:

Spirit Caravan - Fang
High On Fire - Master of Fist
Orange Goblin - Black Egg
Kyuss - One Inch Man
Budgie - Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman
Fu Manchu - Anodizer
Monster Magnet - Negasonic Teenage Warhead
Trouble - Hello Strawberry Skies

The definition is not narrow, but broadly ranges from heavy doom to 70's garage rock, a little bit of prog. and plenty of fuzz and detuned guitar riffs.

Isn't 70's Garage an anachornism? Garage Rock is a genre only found in the 60's, anyway Garage Rock is a retronym and wasn't known in the 60's as that.

1970 Stooges FUN HOUSE, had the most direct influence on artists such as Nebula, Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet, as well as Kyuss. The raw dirty unpolished low-fi sound was a hallmark characteristic of many of their early recordings. 60's bands you're refering to, like the 13 Floor Elevators, The Seeds, The Shadows of Night, Nazz were referred to as garage bands or "underground music" partly due to Lenny Kaye's Nuggets compilation, and IMO all seem too polished and singles oriented, which is the complete opposite of most stoner bands.

Pink Floyd in the 70's were probably the complete antithesis of this. Their music was honed to perfection and sometimes it was to the detriment of their music. When they were organic then the real Floyd stood up- Obscured By Clouds, Animals par example.
