Battle of the Bands Grand Final!
Well friends, and david bowie votes, we've finally made it to the grand final, it's been a good few months, and I've had loads of fun hosting it. This will run for 5 days to give you all a good chance to vote.
Bowie's got some good songs, but nothing truly great that I've heard. Go Zappa!
Zappa, thou shalt own thy competition!
I think everyone is surprised by how well Zappa is doing by getting to the final. MB's sacred Prog Sheep King Crimson were tipped to be the favourites and they've only ended up third! I have to say I'm incredibly happy to have such great talent recognized.
I prefer Bowie. LOW warrants my undying love for the man. Zappa is awesome, but I don't really connect with his music.
Let's go Zappa.
Bowie.
And Bowie takes the lead...
:D |
How has Bowie gotten this far? I mean honestly..
He's kicked everyone's arse , including Zappa already. Already won in my book.

I'm torn, though. Gonna spend that time listening to both to decide which I like more. |
Bowie. Too much Zappa fanboyism lately. It's turning into ZappaBanter.
Bowie is the better songwriter
Zappa is the better musician As I listen to music primarily for songs rather than musicianship there's only one winner here. |
Bowie, for reasons I've stated elsewhere.
David Bowie YES
1ib. 3 posts...I predict a riot!
For me it's David Jones, his 1960's output is by far his best but his Glam Stuff is a very good place to start. The work he and Mick Ronson created between 70 and 74 is some of the finest stuff ever written.
It also should be said he produced two of the best albums of the 1970s, with Transformer and Lust for Life. Its also about his influences, I would have prefered it if it was a Kinks v Velvet Underground final, but it was not to be, but Bowie is the next best thing to that. I like Zappa, but Bowie is what I was brought up on, and more of his stuff is around the gaff, so he's my man for this final (But not for the competition mind, that would be The "robbed" Kinks......just for the record) |
i'm really f*cking sorry Frank... My roots are in pop! I'm a poplar treeee. I'll have a Zappa week after this trauma....
I need to listen to Bowie again because I clearly can't understand the appeal. He is very cool, but his music, albeit interesting, just doesn't seem to impact me. It always feels like he is behind a mask when I listen to it.
Yes go Bowie!!!!

It's interesting how this poll is revealing how unimaginative you all are. I'm the misanthrope and I still am picking the joker over the she-male. |
Well my theory's been blown to hell V_V
It's Bowie.
End it now. |
i did not see this finale coming.
Heads will roll. :bringit:
I'm trying to count off the albums from both that I love and coming up even...
Zappa: Sheik Yerbouti Shut Up n' Play Yer Guitar Apostrophe We're Only In It for the Money Absolutely Free Weasels Ripped My Flesh Bowie: Ziggy Stardust Hunky Dory Station to Station Low Aladdin Sane Scary Monsters Nope, can't do it. |
I can't vote either. Bowie's consistency let's him down but his willingness to new embrace new sounds has always been a huge asset and he is a very capable musician.
Zappa's sense of humour and awesome musicianship is legendary but we could point the finger at him for almost TOO much material and sometimes absurdist material for the sake of it. |
At the risk of sounding like an overhyping maniac Bowie is a king in music. We could have opened this up to all bands from all genres and he'd still probably be in the top 4.
Bowie has trounced Zappa, nice
