Well, given that REM's main fanbase has pretty much shifted to Europe and Britain, I'll concede...

And maybe just maybe I'll find something by the bands you mentioned, and give them a fair listen...

I'm not really a Heart fan per se, just to clarify... I just think that if they are nominated and they get in, its not by any means a bad thing.

If were going to hand out awards for being a rock band in the 70s and going on to make turgid soft rock ballads in the 80s someone better give Robin Zander & Greg Giuffria a call.

I know i have a thing for female-fronted bands but Heart are absolutely bloody terrible.

Just to ask an off topic question, is there actually a physical hall of fame with these artists names in it? I know this might sound like a dumb question, and ya know, it probably is, but I always wondered...

.... and maybe, just maybe i require more sleep...

No.
To be in the hall of fame you have to be legends. If you went up to some random person (sadly), they prolly have never heard of heart. They are really good don't get me wrong, just not HoF worthy.

I dunno, i think they're well known enough, considering that half the kids in the school I work in don't even know how who Nirvana are... most people who have played guitar hero at least a few times probably know who heart is, given that Barracuda is on that game...

Yes for me. I think Heart really did a horrible transformation into the 80s, but a lot of their 70s stuff kicks ass. Barracuda is, of course, a classic. For me - so is magic man, straight on, dog & butterfly, crazy on you and many more songs.

I like Mistral Wind too.

Although there are not that many contenders for the throne, 70s Heart is my favourite female fronted rock/hard rock band.

Also, rock should have more female guitar players.

edit :

My thoughts on U2 is that, although I haven't heard much of their post 2000-stuff, they suffer much more from being too popular and not cool to like than they do from lack of musical ability.

I've always thought it was kind of silly that the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame was in Ohio. I know they have a whole rationale about the first DJ to use the term "Rock n Roll" being from Ohio but so what. The place should be in Memphis. Or as my friend drunkenly referred to it one night when we were hanging out there, "Menfist".
