Not really, two bands progress and it's pretty obvious which ones.

How can anyone who has listened to ANYTHING by Soft Machine pick The Doors?

Because The Doors are better?
I like Soft Machine, I don't love them, not the biggest fusion fan. Theres this little thing called an opinion, look it up. |

well, I donno, I think it would depend on what they heard. for example, there's this live cd from them in 1969 called "live at the paradiso", that, despite it being in their golden period, was pretty bad, and if that was the only thing I heard from them, I would probably pick the Doors too. but its pretty obscure, so yeah

Fusion-fan or not, I thought these polls were supposed (partially anyway) to help elevate lesser known groups over the big-names so that people would be inclined to learn more about them? Otherwise, the whole Battle of the Bands contest is nothing but an act of corporate masterbation and you might as well post up Rolling Stone's list of Top 500 Artists for everyone to read. It's really a shame so many big names got nominated in the first place actually (which I didn't help as I was the one who nominated King Crimson), because as a result most of bands that were obscure to begin with will remain such.

That's not the goal at all, you vote for the band you prefer, that's what Comus is asking, and that's what I did, don't turn this into a corporate thing because I prefer the most well known band. And yes, I've heard all these bands. |
