Heat Five: Battle of the Bands

Can

Arguably the biggest and most important Krautrock group Can made people once again proud to be German and you would too if you heard Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi in the early 70’s.

Room

With only one, rather great (in my opinion) album Pre-Flight room are a very interesting, to say the least, progressive rock band, I’m sure I reviewed them (I think) check it out.

Billy Joel

With a career spanning decades Billy Joel has created an endless supply of great music. The finest that piano based anything has to offer. Check out Piano Man and Turnstiles and basically anything he’s ever done.

Deep Purple

Everyone who knows anything either loves or hates this band, I don’t need to convince anyone otherwise.

Love

I love these guys, their pop stylings laced with psychedelia makes me happy in the nether regions, get Da Capo.

boo boo 01-01-2009 01:34 AM

All you need is Love.

Comus 01-01-2009 01:35 AM

Wow I'm surprised by your choice to say the least.

boo boo 01-01-2009 01:40 AM

What did you expect me to vote for?

Comus 01-01-2009 01:41 AM

Can actually, I've never heard (remembered) you talk about them but they're just infinitely your style.

boo boo 01-01-2009 01:51 AM

I like Can, but they're hideously overrated.

Comus 01-01-2009 01:52 AM

Comes with the territory to be honest.

Piss Me Off 01-01-2009 10:51 AM

Love by a mile, one of the 60's best.

Sneer 01-01-2009 10:54 AM

Again, difficult, i really wanted to vote Love but Can just edged it

TheCellarTapes 01-01-2009 10:56 AM

This Heat is a bit of a tight one

FaSho 01-01-2009 11:00 AM

I have to vote Billy Joel, even though I know I'm pretty much throwing my vote away.

Toybox 01-01-2009 12:09 PM

Love of course.

jackhammer 01-01-2009 01:22 PM

I have'nt heard the Room album and I dislike DP, Love and Billy Joel so it's Can all the way definitely.

Comus 01-01-2009 02:35 PM

this one's looking tight if it's a three way tie for second I'll have to make a tiebreaker heat with three bands and only one progressing, that will be quite harsh.

jackhammer 01-01-2009 02:40 PM

Hopefully Urban will help put Can through then!

Comus 01-01-2009 02:43 PM

I want Billy Joel and Can through.

Seltzer 01-01-2009 02:46 PM

Can is not missing out on my watch...

Sneer 01-01-2009 05:56 PM

The Can momentum is in full flow:)

Double X 01-01-2009 09:07 PM

Can easily, only group on there I listen to...

dac 01-01-2009 11:42 PM

I'm not gonna vote. I haven't heard Room or Love and don't care for the others.

Sneer 01-02-2009 09:11 AM

Maybe you should, Can are a big influence on Radiohead

Drummer101 01-02-2009 10:27 AM

deep Purple got my vote...no doubt their musoc was amazing but thast just me...this heat is pretty tough though!!

lucifer_sam 01-02-2009 12:12 PM

Can may be my hands-down favorite avant-garde band. There's so much that they incorporated into their first works that surpassed any other Krautrock. Absolutely superb.

I've only heard a bit from them... What album would you recommend?

Sneer 01-02-2009 01:09 PM

Agree. Essential.

FaSho 01-02-2009 03:41 PM

Come on Billy, you can beat out Love!

ProggyMan 01-02-2009 03:45 PM

Dear God I hope not.

Tago Mago is really famous, but I think Soundtracks was a better album. Can is a very good starting point for Krautrock I think..

Comus 01-02-2009 04:40 PM

What's wrong with Billy Joel?

Some people cant get over Uptown Girl.......who can blame them

I keep going back to it though, his 60s and 70s stuff is marvellous

Comus 01-02-2009 05:04 PM

I like Uptown girl, but it wasn't his big hit, it was just ruined and brought into the forefront by that terrible boyband.

Even his supposedly better earlier material stinks.

What does it actually smell of Proggy?

FaSho 01-02-2009 06:38 PM

His hits were actually good though. Miami 2017, Movin' Out, especially Captain Jack.

Comus 01-02-2009 06:48 PM

Miami 2017 is brilliant beyond compare.

Sneer 01-02-2009 06:49 PM

Im beginning to regret not voting for Love

Comus 01-02-2009 06:50 PM

Haha, such is the way of these things, you have to vote for the second if there's a favourite, unless you voted when Love was ahead.

Sneer 01-02-2009 06:54 PM

when i voted Love had 5 and Can had 2 haha
