Default Heat Four: Battle of the bands

Hawkwind

Favoured by many here on Music Banter Hawkwind are the essential space rock band, say what the hell you’d like about this band or the other being better or more influential and you’d just be lying through your teeth. Check out any of their stuff really they don’t have any terrible albums. Try Space Ritual, even thought it’s a live album I always found it to be their most instantly accessible record.

Moby Grape

I like to imagine that Moby Grape are the original garage rock band, unfortunately they only had one or two good albums depending on who you ask, check out their self titled debut.

Small Faces

Not much can be said of Small Faces apart from “wow” check out anything they’ve touched.

Free

Their First three albums are all really good, but I’ve always liked their final album Heartbreaker despite their total departure in sound. I dunno why it just feels so might more complete. Anyways if you like All Right Now you’ll love the rest of their songs, mainly because they’re all better.

Henry Cow

Leg End is brilliant to say the least but I’ve never really ventured that much further with Henry Cow, I’ve heard their other albums I was just never impressed by them, check out leg end, lovely mainly instrumental and with a nice jazz tinge. RIO at it’s best Henry Cow are.

I wanted to vote Hawkwind, I wanted to vote Moby Grape, I nearly voted Henry Cow and Small Faces but then decided on free randomly.

Vey difficult this one, Henry Cow was begging for my vote but i plumped for the quintessentially English Small Faces

Small Faces, I think their one of the most underrated groups of the 60s...

Oh jeez. Another heat where I absolutely love only one band there.

Hawkwind for sure. Between Dave Brock's crazy antics and the early punk-driven basslines (led by none other than Lemmy), I'd say they are fairly awesome.
