Most Influential Rock Artist Ever

Yeah. Zep did have some good original material. Maybe it is just cause I grew up on listening to Zep, to the point where it just got to be the same to me, and i just fell out. I give them credit for helping me along in my tastes and being a band that was one of the first I got into. But now a days it is like, heard it all.. don't really go out of my way to hear them. Plus everytime I hear somebody tell me "Stairway..." is the greatest song ever, i wanna strangle them haha. I do not hate them, and acknowledge their impact and influence, they just are a case of hearing them so much I just don't care anymore.

VU, yeah, the amounts of styles that spawned from them is amazing, that can never be taken away from them. I guess my issue is that is more their legacy to me than their actual music and material. I will always give them credit for that more than their music. I think regardless the first album was good, but at the same time think much of it's success now owes to Andy Warhol and his involvement with them and his marketing of them. They were a freak show, and for that I love them as a group. I have been reading "Please Kill Me" some recently, and the whole first chapter is on them, and it is screwed up reading about them, and the way Lou and Nico were always clashing. That was Andy who got Nico on there though, because he felt Lou needed someone else, cause his voice alone was kinda boring, and needed somebody to step up and assist him. Good book if you have not read it, check it out.

To be honest though with Lou solo, I really have only listened to "Transformer" so part of what i said is also my own ignorance on the subject. But judging from that album, it seemed like every song just had a similar feel, or at least the hits off of it.

Agreed with Bob, it is subjective. I respect him a lot as a writer, he is in the tops of best writers of all-time for a reason. But he, as well as say Leonard Cohen, though making some amazing stuff... I just prefer to read the words more than spend more than a short time with their music. That is all just personal opinion on my part.
