The Beatles are the template for all the bands that have followed them. They are the reason thousands of kids have started their own bands. The ultimate inspiration.

Am a Lou reed fan, but for Velvet Underground to have three times as many votes as The Stones and almost twice that of Led Zep?

Where are Black Sabbath? They practically invented the heavy metal genre.

I wouldn't say they invented it, acts like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple had great influence too. Also, I'd say Judas Priest is pretty damn important in the development of metal. Metal thread

Hate to break it to you, but Hendrix isn't metal. Sure, he may have created some important techniques, but Foxy Lady sure ain't metal.

The Ventures are the archetype "Rock band" with rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass and drums. Buffy Holly, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry geez even Cliff Richard & the Shads were all the templates for The Beatles' template. Even the "ultimate inspiration" ultimately had inspiration.

Yes but along with Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, all three set the tone for the future heavy metal genre which was just around the corner.
