I'll go ahead and say the music which inspired Elvis is probably the most influential, i.e. the African American music of the 1950s which led to rock and roll.

You can even see a later influence on rock & roll from a much earlier artist Robert Johnson (1936 & '37). By Eric Clapton & other artist, Keith Richards was introduced to Robert Johnsons music by Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones. Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) style and technique closely resembles that of Robert Johnson. |

T-bone walker had the biggest influence on rock n roll. Havent heard of him? Look him up. He is wayyy too underrated. I think he bridged the gap between robert johnson and rock n roll, considering he was the father of electric blues. Also, i think howlin wolfs influence on rock n roll flies under the radar. He goes back to the days of robert johnson and his style of blues was way more rockin than any other blues musician of his time. Cant forget about people like roy orbison and buddy holly.
