Calling him the best vocalist to have ever lived was not reached idily. When I look at the criteria for a great vocalist it just doesn`t include their voice, but also their range and diversity, their stage performance, look and image, their influence etc, generally I look at the whole package.

I`m picking Jim Morrison out of a bunch of other great male vocalists of his generation that includes Robert Plant, Ian Gillan, Roger Daltrey, Paul Rodgers, Ozzy and Steven Tyler. On another day I may pick one of these as the best male vocalist ever, but in general Jim Morrison would win more often than not.

I think the Doors revival concerts that seem to go on the road every so often, sums it up perfectly. They normally only get the best male vocalists out there to take Jim`s role and these have included Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland (who is probably the nearest to Jim in spirit and sound) These three vocalists are greatly inspired by Jim Morrison and these vocalists that are probably three of the best to have ever graced the hard rock arena over the last twenty years or so.

All this of course is based on my subjective opinion. But I`m happy to debate it til the cows come home

Those three singers voices aren't that great in my opinion. CC being the best of the bunch. They don't even compare to JM.

These three not great are you mad!!!!!!!! Chris Cornell is a great vocalist and one of the most unique voices in the history of rock. I`ve recently fallen in love with Pearl Jam after previously dimissing them as just good and not great and I now think Eddie Vedder the best thing now since sliced bread! I think he`s something very special and a vocalist who really defines what hard rock singing is all about. Scott Weiland I`ve always loved and the song Atlanta" from the STP album "No.4" is almost a double for Jim Morrison and could have come off any Doors album, as it sounds that authentic.

No. 4 was an awful album. Boring as hell.

CC is the best of the 3. EV is okay but Pearl Jam can wear on me. STP is boring drivel 90% of the time.

I`m not really talking about the "No.4" album and yes I know its a poor album, but that song Atlanta is a gem and an out and out homage to the Doors if ever there was one.

They performed with Eddie when i saw them. Quite a good set, and i thought he captured Morrision to a tee. Morrison always had that huge baritone sound and Vedder was a perfect replacement. I would say Weiland would be the least impressive of the three and i find STP to be rather boring beyond Core.

The thing is all these singers offer something different and Eddie Vedder does have that baritone, but there is something about the intonation and clarity of Scott Weilands voice that copycats the slower Doors songs. The big thing that Eddie Vedder has in his favour, is that physically he can pass as Jim wheras Scott can`t for a revival concert.

I can agree with that. Chris obviously has range for days and live not many people sound better vocally in the hard rock genre. Eddie Vedder has a charisma about him that is similar to Morrison and you can tell a great love for the Doors in general. I guess i'd have to hear Weiland with them live to form an opinion. I just find him to be the least talented of the three vocalist personally.

Arrow Rock Vocalist

Sebastian Bach is one hell of a rock vocalist. Looking beyond the "glam metal" persona (this guy has a set of pipes).
Sour Girl is on of my favorite by (STP) Scott Weiland.

I gotta say i thought Skid Row was utter crap with their rock ballad debut. However i found Slave to the Grind to be a pretty decent album. He definitely has ability on vocals and great range. Not my cup of tea, but he can sing.
