Than again that's probably what I would've said when I joined.

If you think that's bad, I can't even imagine your reaction if it had been along the lines of, say, Creed, Nickelback and Pearl Jam. XD

I'm not going to address the other two but is Nirvana even THAT influential? I mean sure they influenced grunge for like 5 years but then what? Nickelback? Hinder? Have they really left a lasting, positive influence?

turboduck17 11-12-2008 03:16 PM

No, i agree, i dont see much influence, maybe nirvana, but thats it. Nirvana, not even that much. I say the choices given are alot better doode.

The Monkey 11-12-2008 03:38 PM

In case if influencing the formation of rock, I have a had time seeing anybody beat Robert Johnson in that category.

turboduck17 11-12-2008 03:46 PM

ummm i have.

Jimmahhhh Hendrix.

FaSho 11-12-2008 04:00 PM

This would be so much more interesting if it wasn't juat a "rock music" poll.

Alfred 11-12-2008 05:44 PM

It would've been more interesting if the Beatles weren't on here, because they're obviously going to get the most votes.

turboduck17 11-12-2008 07:07 PM

yeah and i dont even see why.

dac 11-12-2008 07:35 PM

Because they did a lot for music and took risks that bands of their level of popularity aren't supposed to take. Thus inspiring bands that followed to do similar things.

andriaaa 11-12-2008 08:39 PM

what about pink floyd

turboduck17 11-12-2008 08:43 PM

hmmm, pink floyd was pretty influental, what abou ac/dc???

andriaaa 11-12-2008 08:50 PM

personally, my favorite band from that era was the doors. as for how influential they were? idk about that. i love them, though.

turboduck17 11-12-2008 08:54 PM

you laugh, but its actually unbeleiveable, so much roc is based around power chords, which was all started by acdc. they have no musical tallent, but they defined the major form of rock on the fretboard.

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 08:57 PM

I'm pretty sure Pete Townshend would have something to say about you giving acdc credit for the power chord...

turboduck17 11-12-2008 09:08 PM

acdc built up the power chord. pete townshend was better than just power chords

I do laugh, because ACDC didn't invent power chords...

According to Wikipedia, Link Wray first introduced power chords. The Kinks "You Really Got Me" was the first hit with power chords, and apparently Pete Townshend coined the term.

dac 11-12-2008 09:16 PM

Plus influencing the power chords isn't something I'd be completely proud of, with the way modern music rapes them.

turboduck17 11-12-2008 09:19 PM

whatever, i admit acdc sucks, but i still think they were influental.

oh and i diddnt say they invented the pc, i said they harnessed its powerrrr but whatevs.

What are you talking about, Townshend was credited with bringing the heavy use of power chords to rock well before acdc even formed.

turboduck17 11-12-2008 09:50 PM

ueah but he was a much better guitarist that young.

dac 11-12-2008 09:51 PM

wat?

So?

turboduck17 11-12-2008 09:54 PM

so he diddnt spend as much time on the power chord and moved onto cooler, more challenging things

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 09:59 PM

I'm pretty sure the Who used mainly power chords on every one of their albums with the classic lineup.

Wow, if you're serious than you're stupid.

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 10:16 PM

True, that's an exaggeration, but it's holds true for much of their discography.

Nah, I beg to differ. Townshend had some real chops at rythem guitar.

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 10:25 PM

Not denying it, but he also made innovative use of power chords.

Well, you mean with Mr. Windmill? Man that's a cool guitar move...

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 10:28 PM

Er, do you know what a power chord is?

Anti-Christ 11-12-2008 10:38 PM

So....I was right?

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 10:43 PM

Power chords have nothing to do with guitar windmills.

Anti-Christ 11-12-2008 10:49 PM

You can play a power chord by using the windmill, can you not?

ProggyMan 11-12-2008 10:52 PM

Well, yeh, but you can play a power chord using anything.

A power chord is a two note chord, consisting of a root and a tonic, and hence neither a major or minor tonality.
