Funny , thats exactly how i'd describe Quadrophenia

I'm not super crazy about Quadrophena, it's a good album but it's not the band's masterpiece, as a lot of their fans make out. I like it a LOT more than exile.

Double albums are ideal for pomp rock.

But 20 minutes is about all the middle of the road boogie rock I need before I quickly lose interest.

you would like Quadrophenia, it's a much more drawn out dullard turd than the rest of their material. and that's saying something, Tommy is insufferable.

i will say that the Who never even came close to the apex of annoyance that belabored the existence of eighties-onwards Stones. i hate being so caustic, but they really need to hurry up and die.

or just call it a fucking day already.

It took me years of warming up to it for Quadrophenia to become the favorite of mine it is now. I love the Rock Operas as they best show the band being themselves which wasn't the mainstream powerhouse they became with songs like "Baba O'Reilly" and "Won't Get Fooled Agian"

I'm never surprised to hear people, especially those younger then me not like it. I don't think I'd have given it much attention if not for it's timing and it's the band's role in my life at that time.

so did Hendrix. find me an album recorded on a 4 track that sounds as awesome as Axis: Bold as Love. ;)

Pink Floyd and Can also pushed the envelope on what could be done in a recording studio way farther than most people imagined possible as well.

i voted for Jimi but i can definitely see why The Beatles are winning.

I can't see crediting anyone but the engineers and inventors who utilized the technology for the leap from mono to multitrack and stereo. If you're looking at it from a technological perspective Les Paul wins hands down.

I'm with what Sonace said in that not any one of these musicians is responsible for being the biggest influence on music today, but instead it is a combination of all of these artists and sounds.

My vote went to The Velvet Underground. They are usually underrated in this kind of discussion.

Having said that, can anyone explain to me why the heck do the Rolling Stones have zero votes?! They pretty much created the idea of a "Rock and Roll" band: dirty, rebellious and pulling no punches, opposing the otherwise clean look of the Beatles.

Everyone and their mother thinks that The Beatles were drugged out of their minds by the end of it...

It was always in a happy colourful 'let's sing about walruses' way rather than a 'you might find me dead in your swimming pool' way though.
