Default Who deserves the title "The King of Rock and Roll"?

Who of the following three rock 'n' roll legends from the 50s deserve the title "The King of Rock and Roll"?

Elvis Presley
Chuck Berry
Little Richard

EDIT: A lot of people seem to be misunderstanding the purpose of this thread. I was talking about the 50s rock stars who have been called "The King of Rock'n'Roll", and no one else. To my knowledge no other musicians active in the 50s have been given that title.

I say Elvis, because you hear way more about him then the other two. I doubt Chuck Berry or Little Richard dying would get as much of a reaction as it did when Elvis died.

But then again, Elvis died in '77.

There should be an option for all of them plus more.

Elvis is the King because they call him the King, several people should be credited though, after all it took several genres merging to create Rock and Roll. Without any of which the sum of it's collective parts would not be what it is today.

So sick of people bashing Elvis with no concept of how big his impact was.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Is that really rock n' roll though? I mean, I admire those guys, but I would never consider them part of rock n' roll.

I think there is a definite list, but Monkey certainly didn't cover enough.

I go back to what Rock and Roll is, an amalgamation of so many styles and genres, regardless of rather of not Mose Allison's music sounded like modern or even classic rock and roll, there is no question his influence on those who made the music we love was immense.

That's a very funny observation.

Yeah but they are the more recognisable names to people on both sides of the Atlantic. Kudos to Monkey for sparking good debate.

I agree with JJJ. It's an amalgamation of many artists. Presley was a massive icon in the day and was the FACE of Rock n Roll for sure but it was a case of right time, right place for me. The artists who were really there underpinning the whole scene were your Chuck Berry's etc
