I appear to be the only one who went for Little Richard, I'm honoured

Sneer 12-16-2008 06:48 AM

Robert Johnson

You cant get more rock & roll than this man.

No one else compares to either.

Lots of people do, and Micheal certainly doesn't deserve the title King of Pop. Plenty of better people out there.

seminsh 12-16-2008 08:19 AM

Elvis. Almost all peoples know Elvis!

The Beatles blow both them away. Elvis was a vocalist of other people's music and Michael Jackson as a pop artist was not as influential as the Beatles. Bill Haley had the first rock and roll hit and Chuck Berry had a top ten hit before Elvis in 1955. I give it to Chuck Berry the original rock and roll songwriter/guitarist.

crash_override 05-11-2009 08:14 AM

Has to be Chuck.

coryallen2 05-11-2009 10:41 AM

Elvis has the title and always will.

Ziggy_Stardust 06-02-2009 12:59 PM

Ziggy babay, of course.

TheCellarTapes 06-11-2009 05:01 AM

After all these months, Im amazed that Im still the only voter for Little Richard

ElephantSack 06-11-2009 06:08 PM

I'd give it to Chuck Berry. Mainly because Rock n' Roll was primarily Black music when it originated. Also, because I kind of hate Elvis and Little Richard.

Elvis was a racist and a plagiarist.

Little Richard was annoying as ****e.

Chuck Berry.

The Monkey 06-12-2009 05:01 AM

This is the worst thread I've made in a long time in any forum, why do people keep bumping it?

Son of JayJamJah 06-12-2009 07:36 AM

I'm so sick of this thread

It's really hard to take the opinions of teens, 20 somethings and even to a lesser extent 30-somethings seriously when the term is more a result of the cultural phenomenon Elvis, which they never witnessed or experienced, then the musical pioneer Elvis which history has, perhaps rightly, not been kind to.

Elvis is "The King of Rock & Roll" for the same reasons Wayne Gretzky is "The Great One" and Babe Ruth is "The Great Bambino". People of the era decided to gloss them that and their collective voice was loud enough to make it stick.

It's a fucking Nickname; and just as you can't give yourself a nickname, you can't decide to change someone elses', he's not a real King.

ElephantSack 06-12-2009 12:53 PM

^ I see your point, and well put.

But you also have to consider that the time is coming where were going to be the old ****ers that the kids who want to know about the origins of Rock n' Roll are going to come to for information.

Piss Me Off 06-12-2009 05:20 PM

It's annoying but it's natural of a forum like this, i haven't got that hindsight so all i can do is judge on what is put in front of me. The majority opinion is always going to be a factor. Take even lesser known bands like the Monks, no hope in hell i would have heard about them now if it wasn't for all the people here who listened to them and praised them.

Swink 06-14-2009 05:44 AM

Robert Johnson, hands down. One of the first slide guitarists and a major player in the creation of classic rock.

Hey dude, you can credit the guy for influencing rock n roll and indirectly everything that came after it.

But don't give him all the blame for REO Speedwagon.

S. Flavious Mercurius 06-15-2009 08:54 AM

I think REO Speedwagon should be blamed on cocaine.

That's the only way any station director would have ever played that trash.

ElephantSack 06-15-2009 02:31 PM

You know Robert Johnson probably did some cocaine in his short time.

In fact, did you know that the original song, "Cocaine" was an old Delta Blues song written by a preacher?

TheCellarTapes 06-16-2009 02:35 AM

Oh, I know. I was just relating.

TheCunningStunt 06-18-2009 01:33 PM

Elvis Presley without doubt.

DJ Retro 06-20-2009 10:21 AM

Who deserves the title "The King of Rock and Roll"?

In my humble opinion it has to be Elvis Presley

gunnels 06-20-2009 02:13 PM

I always thought of rock and roll as an anarchy.

SATCHMO 07-14-2009 11:04 PM

Carl Perkins

Rickenbacker 07-14-2009 11:11 PM

Heartbreak Hotel is one damn fine track, eh?

gunnels 07-14-2009 11:17 PM

Bono.

I was a wee bit addicted to Elvis a few weeks ago and that might have been my most played track.

I think he certainly was overated but the early stuff deserves all the praise it gets.

Name one person more deserving of that title than Michael Jackson. You can't, can you?

boo boo 07-19-2009 01:05 PM

If you say Prince I'm going to cut your eyelids off with a pair of scissors.

Piss Me Off 07-19-2009 02:43 PM

Well to be fair, if it's anyone it's probably going to be Prince.

Sodacake 07-19-2009 02:56 PM

If MJ isn't worthy of the title, Prince certainly isn't.

boo boo 07-19-2009 02:59 PM

MJ pwns Prince so much it's ridiculous.

"But Prince writes all his songs and plays his own instruments."

Ok then, Nickelback are a better group than The Temptations, it's been decided folks.

Sodacake 07-19-2009 03:21 PM

Also, anyone who says Robert Johnson is the king of Rock n' Roll is a dumbass. Rock n' Roll has it's origins in the 1940's, after Johnson had died. And for any of you who want to argue that Rock n Roll can be traced back further than the '40's, by all means do so, but Johnson still wasn't a Rock n' Roll artist. He was a delta blues man. A more appropriate title for him would be The Godfather/Grandfather of Rock n' Roll.

Even if you put that aside, Prince has pushed pop further as a genre than Michael did. Not to mention his music's better :o:
