Cream's original name?
Was Cream known originally as "The" Cream? If so, for how long? I've heard this in relation to the fact that Eric and Co. were THE cream of the English music scene. Thanks in advance.

Yes, and you are right on with the origin of the name. They were the original super band so to speak. They never really changed their name either to my knowledge, people just sort of dropped "the".

Quoting Clapton's autobio: "Our next step was to think of a name for the band, and I came up with Cream, for the very simple reason that in all our minds we were the Cream of the crop, the elite in our respective domains."
But I do recall reading at some point the mention (think it was wikipedia) of the band being call "The Cream"... but I'd rather go with Clapton's version on that, even if he can say whatever he wants since it's his book. |

JayJamJah: Good advice, but those weren't the only great supergroups Clapton was in. Remember Derek and the Dominoes? Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is often considered the zenith of Clapton's career. Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, and Skydog himself (Duane Allman) fronted the band. Their lonely record is probably my favorite blues album and one of the greatest. I...still have the original LP.
