Revolver for me. In my opinion, it has the right mix of everything that was great about The Beatles right from the classic "1-2-3-4!" Start-off of Taxman right down to the Psych Out of Cool that is Tomorrow Never Knows. McCartney's Pop instincts were on target on this one (Here, There, and Everywhere is one of the few wide eyed love songs that actually works), George contributes the often imitated but never bettered Taxman, and John's contributions are among his all time best. Innovation, Pop Smarts, and a killer cover.
The Beatles (White Album) has to be next. Classics, Skip Tracks, Wind Down Moments, Mad Experiments and all, it's one of the classic indulgence-over-all albums that actually work (or maybe the only one...), mainly as The Beatles sound like they were really gearing up for their Solo Years with plenty of ambition. Yes, I actually like Revolution 9 as it accidentally captured the madness of 1968, and others in a list of favorite tracks will include Helter Skelter, Cry Baby Cry, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Dear Prudence, Sexy Sadie, and Long Long Long. Paul's sharp answer to those who thought it should have been a single album in Anthology is one of his classic remarks. ("It's great, it sold, it's the bloody Beatles White Album, shut up!" - about 9:30 in Part 8) Rubber Soul - I'm seriously more for the Mid-60's Beatles, and Rubber Soul was the album that said that things were seriously changing for Music. |

Revolver is my favorite, followed closely by Abbey Rd. and Sgt. Peppers/Rubber Soul (can't decide which one I like more).
Revolver is just the perfect album, it flows really well and has a great feel to it. Taxman is a classic, but I really love I'm Only Sleeping and Good Day Sunshine. I never really liked the White Album, it is just such a mess of differing sounds. It is really cool... just not what I would want to listen to regularly |

Please Please Me is awful. With very few exceptions (such as Long Tall Sally), The Beatles were a terrible cover band. The original songs don't stand out either, just bland bubblegum pop.

I can't stand Abbey Road.
Personally my favourites are everything from Help ('65), to Magical Mystery Tour ('67) Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers. Out of the 4 I voted Revolver, no particular reason really, other than I have a Revolver tshirt. |

I have no idea what it is about Abbey Road that I don't like.
I just don't. Maybe it's the popularity, and who the album is popular with. Here Comes The Sun, Come Together, Something, She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, Golden Slumbers... I don't really like any of them that much. It's probably a better album than some of the others I listen to, but if I'm gonna listen to a Beatles album, I go with my preferred albums. My favourite songs from Abbey Road are Carry That Weight, and Her Majesty, and they're both disappointingly short. |
