Official Triumph Thread (there isn't one already?)
Are there any other Triumph fans here? They aren't my favorite band, but they are easily in my top 25. I was introduced to Triumph around 1983 time frame. My Step-Dad's favorite bands were Rush and Triumph. I got to hear quite a bit of them in my youth. I never really appreciated Triumph until I was in my late 20's. I always liked them, but never really saw why my dad liked them so much. Today, I understand, and actually own all their albums myself now.
If you haven't heard them, you can give a listen here: MySpace.com - Triumph - Mississauga, CA - Classic Rock / Rock - www.myspace.com/trcrecords

I don't really like Triumph, but Rik Emmett is a damn good guitarist.

That surprises me. I expected you to like them. I've never really found many people that do like them though. They still are at least a decent band, but again, not my favorite.

I agree boo boo, I saw Triumph live in the early 80's and Rik Emmett was great, the show was good too, lot's of pyrotechnics/explosions etc. I was never a big fan of Triumph, but I can recommend "Rock & Roll Machine" as hands down their best album. The remastered CD is excellent as well unlike some of the earlier CD transfers which didn't do justice to the original recordings.

Triumph began building their reputation across North America as a live band, peaking in the early to mid 1980s, Rik Emmett with his progressive & classical influence, produced an artistically style of Rock at its best.

I would suggest that maybe the only reason Triumph has one good song (in your opinion^) , would only be because "Lay it on the Line" is the only song by Triumph that you like personally, or maybe you haven't discovered any of the other great songs by Triumph (as of yet).
The seperate musical style and articular level of musical arrangements etc. by Triumph (in every aspect) surpassed the songwriting ability of Loverboy in my personal opinion by far. Although Loverboy may have been more popular with the mainstream audiance, with singles that retained more air play & fans possibly than Triumph did, Triumph still remains my favorite pick in comparison to the musical talent of Loverboy. The musical styles of both bands are somewhat very different in my opinion within the Rock genre. Here is my favorite single & video by Triumph, 'Magic Power' YouTube - TRIUMPH - Magic Power [1983] Last edited by Necromancer; 07-20-2010 at 10:19 PM. I kinda thought that you might like other singles by Triumph, since you already liked 'Lay it on the Line'. And I agree totally with Loverboy & STEELY DAN, as I stated before, the comparison musically to Loverboy and Triumph were different in they're individual styles of music, I was a big Loverboy fan back in the day myself, below are a few of my favorite singles by Loverboy. To me personally, Steely Dan is Legend!
