Fields Of The Nephilim
I already know a couple of members don't like them but they are one of my all time favourite bands and although they never achieved huges success, they are highly influential and many artist have quoted them as influences. Their first E.P and album had some great moments but the release of their second full length The Nephilim is wher they really hit their stride. Combining trademark goth vocals with some intricate guitar rythmn work underpinning the main riffs and Noddy's superlative drumming. This track is from the aforementioned The Nephilim. Check out the drumming that kicks in just after two minutes.
They have an interesting back catalogue with splits, side projects and reforming with a couple of albums that are very heavy. This is from frontman Carl McCoy. I'm not as big a fan of Nefilim, but he is always interesting nevertheless: |
Despite their spaghetti-Western goth look O.o they're a pretty good band. Elizium is probably my favourite album, but the other two preceding it are solid as well.

I was hoping a few of the prog heads might check out Elizium due to it's Pink Floyd connections. 'At The Gates Of Silent Memory' is as influential to Ambient Metal as the cues it takes from 70's prog.

Bump. Only because I have been raiding their back catalogue ready for review :D
|
I like them but sometimes their music feels under done.

OK...so I know you've been raving about this group for a while, but I just heard a couple songs today (your vids don't work anymore BTW)..."At the Gates of Silent Memory" and their version of "In the Year 2525" (I actually looked for this one, since I just found out they covered that song today). I'd definitely be interested in hearing more...so do I start with The Nephilim or Elizium? Or something else?

Yet another band in the long, long list of bands I've been meaning to check out for ages. Since I usually hear them mentioned in the same breath as Clan of Xymox I'm pretty sure I'd like them. I'd love to hear more. :)
