Haven't heard ON THE BEACH yet, when I find a used vinyl copy I'll grab it to be sure. Just ran into TIME FADES AWAY that way, which is brilliant.

I've listened to

Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
After the Gold Rush
Harvest
Rust Never Sleeps

Going through his albums... Can't get into Everybody Knows This is Nowhere. After the Gold Rush is CLASS. Harvest is disappointing, but has some good songs like 'Old Man'. Rust Never Sleeps is equally CLASS.

A lot of people don't like his voice, but that's what I like the most.

You lucky mofo, any chance of a copy? That album is rare as fuck, I went to buy it once and it was like £150 on amazon lol. It's the only Young album I dont have.

Oh yea - I love it to pieces - I'm not hooked up to transfer vinyl to CD yet tho, will have to wait for us to move house again and that'll be a while... I was amazed to find it, then met a friend from PA who said he used to find them all the time in used record stores and flea markets - guess people don't know or care what they've got outside of your major metropolitan record collecting areas!

Ok, I need help from a serious Young aficionado here.

These are the Neil Young albums I own:

Rust Never Sleeps
Tonight's the Night
On the Beach
Zuma
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
Live Rust
After the Goldrush
Freedom
American Stars 'N Bars
Weld
Harvest Moon
Harvest
Ragged Glory
Comes a Time
Massey Hall 1971
Live at the Filmore East
Sugar Mountain - Live at Canterbury House 1968
Chrome Dreams II
Living With War
Prairie Wind
Time Fades Away (.mp3)

I need a serious opinion on which album to buy next--I do not plan on owning every Neil Young album, as I do with Bob Dylan, but I do think there are probably a few more worth owning. Of course, I do not know which, and I'm getting into territory where it's hard to find downloadable versions to try out.

As stated above his solo stuff is different to the stuff with Crazy Horse. Most of his solo stuff is rooted in country and folk and albums like "After the Gold Rush" with its blistering Southern Man and "Harvest" are good places to start, as is the album around the same era with Crazy Horse "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere" which contains two gems in Cinnaman Girl and Cowgirl in the Sand. Then from there go to another album with Crazy Horse called "Zuma" with the outstanding Cortez the Killer, this by the way is my personal favourite album in his catalogue and then "To Rust Never Sleeps" also with Crazy Horse.

I think after listening to these you will know if Neil Young is to your liking or not. If you are more inclined to like straight up rock music as opposed to country/folk rock then the stuff with Crazy Horse is more recommended.

Also dig out a copy of the Jim Jarmusch film ""Year of the Horse" which focuses on the band in the 90`s where their music is displayed at its grungiest best where the group simply blow you away.

Forgot to mention that, but remember well the huge gap between Neil Young`s solo set and the set with Crazy Horse.
