After just looking I`ve got only just 2 remasters of the Who, but most of my Doors, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple material from that era are remasters and sound great.

I think the Who Sell Out is a good place to start, if you don`t want to get the first two albums.

As I`m not a Stones fan I have to say the Who, but as far British bands of that era went, both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were considered the best two with the Who in third place. This ranking is kind of based on a combination of talent and popularity and a yardstick by which to measure bands.
