Meet the new boooossss
Same as the old booooossss

Behind Blue eyes

See me Feel me

Kids are alright

can't explain

Love the Who
Great thread starter.
The Zep are okay didn't they do a song about an old lady going up a ladder to heaven or something and the theme to top of the pops.
I wonder what happened to their other shed load of songs.
Like black sabbath, man had they not made paranoid they wouldn't be in LA snorting ants for fun they'd be tipping rubbish bins in Birmingham.
Did black sabbath make another song?
All they play when they have a news article about them is paraonoid.
One song can make you innit.
The who are the best rock band because they sang about growing up and not about an old lady going up a ladder to heaven.

If you're going to insult a band, try to at least make logical statements from time to time, k? It would be wonderful when people who cast aspersions on a band actually KNOW what they're talking about.

Personally, I like The Who, I think they're very good and Pete is a supremely talented songwriter and musician, but I also feel they should have quit after Keith died. Not a single album was released after 1978 that I feel was a worthwhile creative accomplishment.

you haven't told me where I am wrong or where I know nothing.
Tell me where I am wrong and where I don't know what I am talking about and what k means.
Then I will reply to you on actual points.

It's not really the thread for it, but oh well...

If you want to actually see what Led Zeppelin is like, judge them by the three albums they released before Stairway. Every single album they released has achieved platinum status, something that The Who would be extremely grateful to see. "Their other shed load of songs" receives just as much appreciation from fans as Stairway, and they were one of the biggest rock bands in the world BEFORE it came out. Want proof?

It's absolutely ridiculous to label legendary bands like Sabbath and Zeppelin as one-hit wonders when their entire discographies merit great appreciation (well, Sabbath was amazing with Ozzy, can't say I enjoy Dio too much). Not to mention the fact that their combined influence probably holds sway over every single metal band out there today... If you're going to criticize a band, why don't you listen to more than one song to give them a little bit more of a chance? Led Zeppelin did so much right, and it's unfair to label them as such.

I can't say I LOVE the Who all that much. Good band, very creatively ambitious, but most of the music doesn't move me so much. Who's Next is their best set of songs by a cakewalk.

^ This. However, I do feel The Who have created a handful of great songs.

Today I was trying to think of more songs from the '80s that I like, when I finally remembered "You Better You Bet," which I didn't recall was by The Who. I always enjoy this song because I am amused by its humor. The song also sounds pretty and even beautiful at times to me...fresh, honest, and real.

Then I realized I couldn't remember many other songs by the Who that I like. I can think of some that are meh or that I hate with a passion (like "Who Are You?"). Yet it was harder to remember songs that please me.

After listening to a few of those YouTube videos that provide the starts of 25 songs in a total of only 6 minutes (yeah!), I made my list of the few songs by The Who that I enjoy. Here it is:

1. "You Better You Bet" (1981)
2. "My Generation"
3. "Baba O'Riley"
4. "Won't Get Fooled Again"
5. ? ? ? (If I recall or find other Who songs I like, I'll add them)

"You Better You Bet" -- I like this song very much due to its sound (especially beautiful at the beginning), meaning, humor, and associations -- I associate it with a particular time in my life. I like the song even though it breaks the cardinal rule of songwriting: Never, never, never, never, never rhyme "life" with "knife"!! (Shudder.) However, that flaw is counterbalanced by the delightful "your dog keeps licking my nose," which redeems the lyrics.

Hey, I just learned on Wikipedia that this was the 4th song to be played on MTV after its 1981 launch, and "You Better You Bet" was also the first video to be shown on MTV more than once!

Fair play.
But whenever a tv show shows sabbath they only ever play paranoid and whenever they show zep they show whole lotta love or stairway Always Always.
Whereas the Who they show loads of songs.
Platinum is one thing but westlife are more successful then the beatles you know?

Anyway some bands have fans that will buy anything but the Who's fans are more discerning in taste and probably more depth to them then Sabbath fans with their fangs and fake blood like kids at holloween.
The who were about abuse, growing up and much more then stupid black magic which the sabbath only come across as an idea by chance and had no knowledge of it like their fans think they had.

Ummm, because those songs were popular. I don't think that's completely true either. Local classic rock stations where I live play a lot more than just Stairway, but they also don't confine themselves to playing My Generation, which is by far the most overplayed The Who song ever.

Not in terms of albums sold, gross popularity, or critical acclaim. What criteria are you basing this upon? Pop radio play?

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? That The Who fans are somehow aesthetically superior to everyone else? Well, that sure makes sense. While metalheads carry some negative stigma about their appearance, it's not prudent to discriminate against them for their appearance. And most just have long hair and a t-shirt on, not parachute pants and slashes across their arms.

Well, if there was anything to persuade me of your narrowmindedness, this is it. Black Sabbath was a great band who explored much more intimate emotions than Ozzy's later music gave sway to. They were THE heavy metal band for years (and I still think they are), and while they weren't the most talented musicians, they were excellent songwriters and produced some of the best metal albums. To write them off like some cultist pseudo-intellectual band who got popular through happy chance and misunderstood fans is not only wrong, but it defames the career of all of their successors. Which, as I've already attested, is a fairly long list.
