The Who Sell Out is a good place to start, but any reason why you are missing out on the first two albums? The evolution of the band is quite interesting throughout the 60's before they got bogged down into doing rock operas.

I hope your listen includes seeing them live on dvd, the Who are usually considered the best band live in the history of rock according to most lists. Watch the couple of songs they did at Woodstock and Isle of Wight concert and this will justify their live reputation.
So the remasters are good then?

Do you think I should get an album over Who Sell Out to start with?

Also, out of curiosity US, who do you think is better, Stones or The Who?

After just looking I`ve got only just 2 remasters of the Who, but most of my Doors, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple material from that era are remasters and sound great.

I think the Who Sell Out is a good place to start, if you don`t want to get the first two albums.

As I`m not a Stones fan I have to say the Who, but as far British bands of that era went, both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were considered the best two with the Who in third place. This ranking is kind of based on a combination of talent and popularity and a yardstick by which to measure bands.

Blue Oyster Cult- On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
Cheap Trick- Live at the Budokan

Well you were right it was brilliant! Entwhistle's bass playing in particular was very strong. You can see where their whole sound is built from just this album.

Now on to Quadrophenia!

The beauty of Entwhistle was when watching the Who live, while the other three were giving out their legendary manic performances, Entwhistle just stood there plucking his bass and making it look so easy, he summed it up perfectly when he wore his skeleton suit.

Are the deluxe editions of the albums worth the extra 10 or so dollars? Or should I stick with the regular remasters? The two albums I have in mind are Live At Leeds and Who Sell Out so is the extra content on those dlx edition albums worth it?

The Who Sell Out! Expanded Edition is only single disc and wouldn't be priced more than the original versions. I haven't heard the Deluxe Edition, what's on it?

As I pointed out before, the 2nd disc of Live at Leeds is superfluous cos the (almost) full perfomance of Tommy isn't very good. You're better getting the original studio version of Tommy.

So get normal edition of Tommy and Live At Leeds? I'd heard some people say that LaL deluxe was better becuase it has the full LaL performance, but you think its better how it was originally inteded?

I'm not sure exactly whats on Who Sell Out dlx edition, I'd have to double check.

trust me, the one with the 2nd disc of Tommy isn't very good

do get the full first half of LaL, and not the original 5-track version

I just ordered the 95 remaster of LaL. Hope I like it.

Here's the link to the amazon page of Who Sell Out dlx edition. Tell me if you think the extra tracks are worth an extra 13 bucks, Il Duce.

Amazon.com: The Who Sell Out (Deluxe Edition): The Who: Music

Thanks for all the help man!
