The Who just plain out rule, every album from the first album to Who are You? Are all just fantastic. The albums that came after Moon were different but they still had there good songs on them. I also love all of there solo stuff. My personal fav solo wise though is Entwistle, i'm just a huge fan of his.
All of the members in The Who I would put in my top 5 of any instrument/vocal list.

Somebody tell me what I'm missing with the Who?
--I recognize they have great players: Townsend, Entwhistle, Moon, Daughtry all shine in their respective roles --I recognize they have great vision: Tommy as the first rock opera and Quad taking the rock opera one step further -- I recognize that they put on great live shows: Live at Leads being a notable example -- I recognize their influence, most recently on bands like "Green Day" But... I find them incredibly boring and lacking musically hooks. I know this sounds harsh, but their sound just doesn't do it for me, and aside from the four points I made above, I hear them as their day's Nickelback. |

You listed Tommy, Quadrophenia, and Live At Leeds. Have you actually listened to those albums? |

So I've been thinking of getting some Who. (I don't own any, surprising I know)
Should I stick with the 95 remasters? I assume they are probably the best right? The only reason I ask is because some times there are many people who think strongly when it comes to the sounds of some remasters, but the 95 ones are good right? Also, I was thinking of starting with The Who Sell Out. Good idea or bad? |

The Who Sell Out is a good place to start, but any reason why you are missing out on the first two albums? The evolution of the band is quite interesting throughout the 60's before they got bogged down into doing rock operas. I hope your listen includes seeing them live on dvd, the Who are usually considered the best band live in the history of rock according to most lists. Watch the couple of songs they did at Woodstock and Isle of Wight concert and this will justify their live reputation. |
