I live in washington, and one of the biggest cities in washington I see a variety of people and good deal of them wear slayer/pantera/iron maiden/metallica shirts, and metal as MUZAK? what?

muzak is the stuff you hear in elevators. I think the term was coined in the 30's. Wiki it, you'll see.

I've never heard the Beatles in an elevator before but i've heard Nirvana, Soundgarden, Metallica, Pearl Jam and the Melvins in plenty.
