muzak is the stuff you hear in elevators. I think the term was coined in the 30's. Wiki it, you'll see.

I've never heard the Beatles in an elevator before but i've heard Nirvana, Soundgarden, Metallica, Pearl Jam and the Melvins in plenty.

I would love to hear The Melvins in a elevator. I can't even hear them on the radio.
