Some people certainly have a strange taste in music.
To each her own I suppose, but yes I have tried to listen to older Genesis on numerous occasions and I just don't like it. Problem with that? Phil Collins Genesis is ok but there again, it dosen't thrill me.

And Yes is just not my cup o' tea. Sorry. BTW The Clap is a nice little Steve Howe guitar piece. I do like it.

My favourite bands are Queen, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Doors and Yes. I think in this order.

(I love Porcupine Tree but I have a feeling they aren't classic rock.)

classic rock is the sort of name that a magazine or TV documentary would use to umbrella everything. The term is so general that its pretty redundant.

I agree. I have a hard time believing in "classic rock". I don't understand how someone could list The Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, and Floyd under the same "genre" (or whatever you wanna call it). The sounds that fall under the classic rock umbrella are so diverse. I don't get how anyone could even claim to be a classic rock fan. I mean, there are so many classic rock musicians/groups with so many different sounds!

What even defines classic rock anyway? What makes a classic rock band? Because it obviously isn't the kind of music they play. Is it age? I struggle to say I like a "type" of music that defines itself on the age of the acts...

Yeah, that's true.
So my own definition would be maybe something like well-known rock?

Wikipedia says:

Quote:
Classic rock was originally conceived as a radio station programming format which evolved from the album oriented rock (AOR) format in the early-1980s. In the United States, this rock music format now features a large playlist of songs ranging from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, with some stations including a limited number of current releases.[1]

The classic rock stations recreate the sound of Album Oriented Rock (AOR) stations of the 60s-90s (although usually with a much more limited playlist) and appeal mainly to adults, rather than teenagers.[1] Some classic-rock stations also play a limited number of current releases which are stylistically consistent with the station's sound, such as fitting the vibe of the other rock music.[1]

I'd have to disagree. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters are well-known, but I would by no means call them classic rock.

I do like the wikipedia quote, however. There's some good insight there. I'm ok with classic rock as a radio station format. I've got some good stations around me, but they always play the same stuff over and over. As diverse as "classic rock" is, there seems to be no variety. I do enjoy stations that play an assortment of classic rock and newer stuff too. I like to hear good new artists who have a touch of "classic rock" to them. I used to listen to only classic rock, but then I decided to stop living in the past.

Yes. Hmm, so again - it's really not easy to say what it is
I think too that definition of Wikipedia isn't so bad. But czech radio stations aren't good example I would say. I don't listen to radio so much, it's boring, they still repeat all the same.

Another article / definition what is classic rock - Classic rock - http://classicrock.about.com
