Oceansize

Anyone familiar with these guys?

A 5 piece progressive outfit from Manchester, UK. They are fairly new band with only 2 albums and debuted in 2003 with Effloresce, a 75 minute blockbuster of sound. I personally would sum the music up as Radiohead lumbering into Isis-like instrumentals. They're described as a Spacey Prog band with a fairly Post-rock sound to things.

Anyway, the 3 guitarists and the bassist create some awesome music with a sort of washing over sensation. Highly recommend them if you love any of Porcupine Tree, Floyd, Radiohead, with a hint of doom.:)

Heres one of their most popular songs, from the album Effloresce, Massive Bereavement. PM me if you want the album.

one of my favourite British bands i think. Effloresce is so good. I prefer splitting it into two portions (last 3 tracks are 26 mins alone) rather than listen as a whole, but its a stunning album.

Favourite song.. You Wish, followed by Paper Champion, Someday All this will be yours, and Women who love Men...

they put on a rather good live show too! seen them 3 times now. I have a mate whos seen them about 15 times... rediculous, but understandable!

Also check out (more British bands): Aereogramme, Jeniferever, Martin Grech

15!

Lucky bastards. You Wish has to be my favourite song at the moment too, I love the last 3 minutes of it. I also love Saturday Morning Breakfast Show.

The most impressive thing about Effloresce is that it's their first album.

Sound Devastation 06-21-2006 06:06 PM

true. they were releasing EPs for a few years but for a first attempt at a full length album it flows amazingly and sounds so perfect.

out of those 15 shows they only played You Wish once. The one song id kill to see live they'll probably never play again :(

Seriously.. all you people into Tool, Radiohead, Floyd.. or neither, check them out.

youve just reminded me how much i love them. Theres a double 12" vinyl of Effloresce in a shop in Nottingham that i was tempted by last week, but i think i will be purchasing as soon as i get back up there!

I just checked out the album...its alright...i dont like the vocals that much...too plain..but that could just be me..

Merkaba 06-23-2006 05:34 PM

I thought the vocals varied quite a bit throughout the album.

Sound Devastation 06-23-2006 05:39 PM

i really like the vocals.. more on Effloresce than Everyone Into Position (a bit too high in the mix i think) but theyre pretty raw and emotional for a band of that style.
