I love Def Leppard!
People get really upset when you call them a metal band :)

they were a part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
The same movement that spawned Iron Maiden , Their first albums primary influence was Judas Priest. Go look it up if you don`t beleive me |
No I believe you, just, they don't sound it...
Well they don`t now
Thats because they`ve been putting out bland radio friendly cock rock since 1983. |
Yea that would explain it. ;)

yeah their older stuff is so very much better, On Through the Night, especially!
yeah, although, I can't listen to them all the time. I get bored with their stuff just because I listened to it so much before.
there good...but only when listened to in moderation
What has nine arms and sucks?

DEF LEPPARD!!!! Oh, and they suck. |
NME review of their latest album:
Def Leppard - Yeah! Nah. 0/10 Concise and to the point. |
Their new album is all cover tunes, and weak ones at that.
Pyromania kicks ass though Rise up gather round rock this place to the ground burnin up lets go for broke watch the night go up in smoke rock on ROCK ON drive me crazy yeah no seranade no fire brigade cuz it's PYROMANIA!!! |
Pyromania was good, that's all i will say about Def Leppard.
Lady Strange was the only listenable song from them I'd ever heard.
I like them ok enough. They have some pretty good guitar work. Unfortunately, it's on the tracks that never got any air time. When MTV arrived, they changed. They beat that 'Photograph' record into the ground.
Def Lep.
Def Leppard Kicks ass! i mean come on...Rock of Ages, Photograph, foolin....enough said..

I have some songs I do love, so I won't disconsider them. They are not my faves, but I have nothing against them either
they were great b4 pour some sugar on me came out. they went bubblegum after that. but pyromania and high and dry were awesome
Def Leppard
Yeah so i searched em and nothing came up. What are your thoughts on these guys? favorite album/song?
I think they're pretty awesome- love the guitar riffs. Favorite album- Hysteria Favorite song- Pour some sugar on me/love bites |
Bag of shíte, hair metal pap. A couple of tracks from ON THROUGH THE NIGHT and PYROMANIA are not bad and i will admit that LOVE BITES is a cliched but well intentioned ballad. The image was what I hated. The poodle hair and HYSTERIA is so reliant on studio gimmicks, it goes against what they were. A working class English rock band. They sure have been through the mill band member wise though so respect to them for that.
Hysteria is so overproduced it could be any band playing on that album , It just happened to be Def Leppard.
Random fact : Def Leppard were the only NWOBHM band to get a John Peel session. |

I think this thread should be linked to the 'Best Producers' one. Here's why:
Where would DL ever have gone without Mutt Lange? He made them the stars they became. The band brought him the songs, and he turned them into blockbuster radio hits in the studio. When he dropped them, they died. And his wife, Ms. Twain- is she really that good? Sure, she's lovely, but her voice isn't that great. Forgettable country-pop drool. The point is, producers like Rock and Lange don't make albums, they make hits. The band are just a medium. |
Best producer does not automatically equate to good music.
Belongs in the trash can.
wait so your basing an opinion on them by there appearance and producingness??? okay they might be rather ****ty band-wise but they make some damn good music
im not a huge 80's fan, but DL did have some good stuff. i really cant name my "favorite" mainly becuase i dont have one. but good band nonetheless
and Night Lamp: you're right to an extent that producers "make or break" bands in a sense that they make the band sound professional. They make every aspect of that song sound the best that it can. so that when a CD comes out it doesnt sound like a pile of excrement. But producers dont "make hits". the band writes the "hit" and producers are hired to record and master that song. they have no involvement in writing, practicing, or performing. Bands are not a medium by any means. but neither are the producers. becasue it takes both the band and their producer to make a great song/album. |

i grew up listening to these guys so of course i love them :)
any good cd or song suggestions?
I think I was in sixth grade when Pyromania came out. I thought it was awesome back then, but I haven't really listen to them since then.
Thin Lizzy > Def Leppard.

Genuine quote from Joe Elliot
'Our first album was us trying to be Judas Priest , our 2nd album was us trying to be AC/DC , it wasn't till pyromania till we found our own sound'. Makes you wonder why they bothered looking for it really. |
