It's probably their most played song down here, more than Stairway to Heaven. Can't listen to that song anymore either.

I can admit they were a pretty great band, but there's always been something that has pushed me away from them. I'm not quite sure what it is.

I'd say Physical Graff because of the shear towering size of the songs that are recorded on it. In My Time Of Dying is epic in every sense of the word! The album showcased their talent to present many varied styles of music.

I never really listen to anything from Presence on, although it's really hard not to enjoy "Fool In The Rain" or get a little choked up at "All Of My Love" from In Through The Outdoor

With full admission that they weren't terribly responsible in the area of songwriting credits....

Some would argue that they WERE terrible at songwriting credit. And I won't say they're wrong, although at least they always made the plagerized material their own, put their own twist to what they "borrowed". I'm a huge fan. They were great studio musicians IMO.

I believe that Peter Grant was a very dark influence. I believe he was probably largely responsible for their not crediting said "borrowed" material. I can't prove that, but I believe it in my heart. He was a total prick.

Houses of the Holy is my favorite LZ album so I guess I could commit to choosing 'No Quarter" as my all time favorite. The closing track "The Ocean" comes in a close second for that mind-blowing jam at the end which to me is the best closing of any Zeppelin albums. It's soooo goooood.....

However I'm sort of burned out on Zep for awhile. Need to let them fade some before I can go back and enjoy them again. But since Robert Plant came out with that album with Alison Krauss I have been getting into his solo work.

Certainly their cover of When the Levee Breaks.

I have a real hard time with Led Zeppelin. I'm guessing Memphis Minnie wrote the song about the '37 flood (though it could've been any number of floods or near floods), & that resonates with me (having spent the last year in Memphis). But Page & Plant didn't know anything about levees or floods or about losing their livelihoods. So when I listen to Zeppelin & I try to connect with the songs, I just end up feeling Page is a huge dick & that he & Plant are both posers.

But you can't argue with the drum tones that Glyn Johns got on IV. Insane.

I think what really killed it for me was watching an interview with Page & the guy asked him about Jake Holmes & Dazed & Confused & he said something to the effect of "What's the guy got a claim to? 1 guitar riff? Give me a break." That guy is in his own category of douche bag, him & Lance Armstrong & very few others.

They aren't asking you to believe that they have experienced floods or losing their livelihoods first hand just because they wrote a song about it. Most of us haven't experienced true disasters in our life. But most of us have known someone who has. You don't have to survive a natural disaster to qualify to write a song or poem or book about it. We all know what drowning is. Most any adult knows what a levee is and what disaster is impending if it breaks. We all can imagine what it would be like losing our house and possessions to a tornado or flood or fire or earthquake and we can sympathize with and relate to those who suffer from them.

When The Levee Breaks is a great song that "artistically" conjures up the appropriate mood for the context of the song. You may have valid reasons for not liking Plant and Page on a personal level. A lot of rock stars are pricks and wouldn't give you the time of day. But calling them posers for the reason you mentioned is absurd.
