All that and you still think tool put out one of the best albums in the past 5 years? Tisk tisk.

Two of the best albums of the past five years, actually.

Thought I'd chip in here. All of the Tool music I've heard (half an album's worth) was pretty dull and pointless. Slow and boring does not mean clever. Directionless does not mean progressive. I think it makes decent enough background music while doing something interesting, or perhaps lift music for rock clubs (those with lifts), but I wouldn't listen to it again. Not on purpose.

I also listened to Twinzero's music and thought pretty much the same thing. Did not like. Sorry, SoundDevastation. I do, however, muchly like your band Aotea. What date were they playing Scruffy's in Birmingham?

I read all the post in the thread..

i'm a tool fan I enjoy pretty much most of there songs up until there new album.
Its not that I don't want them to sound the same as they used to... cause I would like that.
but when they're still trying to sound the same.. yet still adding new things is.. just doesn't fit.. because well the new stuff there adding in doesn't suit them or there sound.. at least I don't think so.

Which two time signatures and on which drums?

Actually, I guess it's three. From the July issue of the "Modern Drummer" magazine:

Modern Drummer: Is there any song on 10,000 Days that was more interesting or challenging to play than the others?

Danny Carey: If I was going to pick one, just from a drummer's standpoint, 'Rosetta Stoned' is a good one. There's a part where I'm playing four with my left foot, five with my right foot, and six with my hands. Justin jumps on the rhythm with my kick and Adam is following my hands. It has a nice jungle feel to it. It's kind of neat the way it cycles around. I also think 'Jambi' sounds uniquely Tool. I like both of those songs, they're really fun to play.

Lol. They don't 'try' to replicate any of their previous works. They, collectively, have distinct and anomalous sound. With each release, they uphold that core Tool sound, while still experimenting with several new instruments, styles and techniques.

Hmmm, sounds good and I'd like to hear that particular beat... but I'd hardly say that was something to be excited about on a conceptual level. I listened to some more Tool online just now and still don't really like it. I really do find it dull. Fair enough if some people disagree. My only genuine gripe is that the word progressive is often used to describe them. Its rock with bits of metal which throws in more dischord, harmonic tension and unsettled rhythms than your average rock/metal band. That doesn't make it progressive.
