I wouldn't consider them prog though they did have some proggy material, i certainly wouldn't consider them glam though i can hear a little Bowie influence in some of their work... I'd say overall they were just a rock n roll band, plain and simple.... Some however would go as far as to call them metal or proto metal, and i see that as a possibility.... Their influence on a lot of metal bands is pretty overlooked.
A lot of people label them AOR or Album Oriented Rock... Which is also what Journey, Foreigner and REO Speedwagon are considered to be... Which is a big insult to BoC. I don't consider them AOR though, AOR bands aren't badass enough to have Patti Smith write songs for them.
