I personally think Richards deserves to be in the top ten. Hes not really known as a modern day "shredder" on guitar. But the Stones music is composed mostly with two separate/different guitar parts. Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. Rhythm guitar is a better description of his style, than suggesting and ranking him with (technical) lead guitarist.

Pete Townsend is similar in style (Rhythm), genre, and era. And one hell of a songwriter.
