Jones was happy for the band to remain an R&B / Blues covers band.
He may have been a talented musician but he didn't exactly push himself.

It was Jagger, Richards & Loog Oldham that wanted the band to explore new things and to write their own material. It was that material that gave Jones the chance to show how good he was, and he couldn't handle the pressure. Which is why he had the problems he did and why he was finally ejected from the band.

It doesn't matter if you were talking about his personal life or not, the man and the musician are same thing, you can't separate them.
