Because originally it was his band.

You should read Andrew Loog Oldham's autobiography. Jones was given chance after chance after chance to sort himself out, by the end the rest of the band were carrying him. And that was why they eventually got rid of him.

I won't deny that he was a really difficult person to get on with! Surely there's some case, though, for him being a great musician? I know he could be a real dick at times, but at the end of the day when we are talking about how musically talented he was, his personal life isn't relevant?
I'm not trying to defend the man, I just think that there must be some things about him that make his comparison with John Paul Jones an interesting one, perhaps especially the fact that John Paul Jones was quite a mild mannered person.

I didn't say anything about him as a person. Nor did I say anything about his songwriting ability. I'm talking about instrumental prowess. And his was very strong. His personal character Is completely irrelevant.

You always turn up and say what I was saying in about half the words yet articulate it a lot better. Sadly Urban has hit the hay for tonight, so we'll have to postpone this argument. We can't be fighting when the mod isn't around.

I was just pointing out why he was overshadowed. If we're going to say he was overshadowed, we may as well know why.

He was a nasty little man and I believe it cost him his life.

Haha, well you pretty much said all there was to be said. I just felt the need to repeat it.

What he said may be true, but it was a little off topic.

How is it off topic? this is a thread about the Rolling Stones.

If he was too ****ed up to do anything constructive then I would say that his personal life has everything to do with his musical ability.

You might be right. He just about made a baby everywhere he went and kept moving on, never being a part of their lives. But he did take care of some of his kids I believe. He sold his record collection in order to help take care of one.

But nonetheless, I never said anything about his personal. And even if he wasn't a nasty little man, he still would have been overshadowed.

It's a little off topic because I was talking about his ability as a musician, not his personal life. And I disagree, he contributed. He played slide guitar on many songs, organ, marimba, trumpet, appalachian dulcimer, harpischord, accordion, saxaphone, oboe, mellotron, harmonica, and autoharp.

Not really because it was implied that Brian was overshadowed because of his playing abilities, which simply wasn't the case. He was a much more talented musician than Keith.

How was that implied? I just said he was overshadowed. He certainly was. Jagger is always going to overshadow him even though he was way more talented in his 27 years than Mick will ever be. Maybe it was implied by someone else, but not by me. I've always seen Brian as the most talented member. At least when it comes to instrumental ability.
