Yeah, Bob Dylan folk

I see your point, but I'm talking about popular artists that came before the baby boom generation, not artists that only appealed to certain lifestyles :thumb:

That might have more to do with the availability and ready distribution of music at the time though...

That was a different breed of hippy though. The non-bohemian hippy movement produced psychedelia, which was an astounding accomplishment considering the situations in which it arose.

There's a reason that the movement that musicians like Dylan were a part of was called Folk Revival. It was what we would describe today as a retro music scene.

The context you said that under was a means of belittling rap artists though.

And psychedelic music was usually blues or folk based with what at the time was a modern twist.

Further, I don't think Dylan just appealed to certain lifestyles. He was an immensely accomplished lyricist, and reached out to a wide audience.

Yep, and he only began to appeal to a massive audience when he turned electric and went all rock & roll on us. Before that, as I said, he just appealed to a certain clique

I meant to say that, among other things, this is what it did to rap, etc etc. I just didn't delve into those "other things"

Whether that's true or not, I don't see how it's relevant to what I'm saying.
