I think it's ridiculous to suggest that classic rock can be either overrated or underrated. For every Led Zeppelin or Queen there's also bands like for example Nazareth or The Sensational Alex Harvey band. Bands who had a pretty sizeable following in the 70s who have practically been forgotten about now.

Speaking of Nazareth, I initially mistook MissMurder's user name for "MissMisery". How badass that would've been if it was a Nazareth (NOT ELLIOTT SMITH) reference rather than an AFI one.
Anyways, I do think the dinosaur classic rock bands are overrated due to some sort of retro trend going on right now where it's actually become cool to bear shirts with the mighty Zep implanted on them. I don't think bands of the 80's and 90's have caught on as much with this generation as the 70's groups (excluding Nirvana) because the baby boom generation is still occupying the radio waves with their "golden oldies" garbage stations. Unfortunately, I was stuck with parents who tuned into these stations constantly and due to overexposure, alot of these bands have burnt out on me. And I now really and truly hate Journey and Foreigner for the previously stated reasons |

And that modern audience will get older & the same thing will happen again.
In 20 years time I bet your kids / nephews & neices / whatever get bored of you droning on about how great Radiohead & Neutral Milk Hotel are and denounce all 90s alternative as old overrated shit.

Christ. I hope those bands never achieve such immortality. I know I'm going to have to cope with Nirvana set up there on the same pedestal as all these other bands, which is pretty infuriating itself.

But I see your point, all the big artists of today treading old ground and not doing anything different are going to be forgotten much the way alot of 70's bores are now forgotten (good riddance at that). But the thing is, there wasn't really any retro trend going on during the baby boom generation, no Frank Sinatra revivals (as far as I know), so that's why I think this retro-trend bull**** is unique in that respect |
