If you have to announce you can kick someone's a$$, that puts you right in the 'look how tough I am' category. That being said, The Crue are probably the biggest band to come out of the whole VO-5 hair metal genre. That isn't saying much, though. In the context of contributions to the world of music, they contibuted absolutely nothing but a look. There was nothing innovative or groundbreaking, music wise. Oh, sure, there were a few guitars gods (very few), and a few singers that could knew their way around a mike. Their songwriting was tacky and cliche. But, for the most part, hair metal made no impact on music history at all. However, in the context of simply having a good time and playing crunchy metal, they were pretty good at it. It wasn't deep, didn't contain a whole lot of thought provoking lyrics, and just about any bar band out there could get a contract if they had the look. It was fun music, with no real meaning, and that's why it burned out so quickly. The teens that were banging their heads to that stuff moved on into their 20s and then next generation came along and said "what the heck is this crap?". That's when grunge came along, and the hair bands pretty much disappeared. Oh, sure, you could still see Quiet Riot....at the State Fair, playing for maybe 1,000 people. There's been a resurgence lately, but it's not due to anyone suddenly taking The Crue seriously. It's nostalgia, plain and simple. People who banged their heads to this stuff 20 years ago are now in their late 30's or so, and go see this stuff to spend an evening back in their hey day, you know? There's a place near here called Kahunaville, with an outdoor deck, big enough for concerts, and last year (I think), they had 3-4 hair bands one night. I forget which ones, (I didn't go), but it was obvious these hair bands knew that alone, no one would come see them except for their most diehard fans. But, lump a handful of them together, and you got "Wow, I can see band A,B, and C, for 25 bucks". The Crue is selling out dates now, because it's been 15 years or so since they toured together, and people want to see it. Did anyone happen to see the show that followed their re-uniting? Vince Neil was playing, like the grand opening of the new Walmart or something when they approached him about it. So anyway, there's my two cents worth.

I usually don't like to bash bands on their own threads.
But Motley Crue really are crap. |

Meh, Cradle Of Filth are so inept that i find them somewhat amusing.
To be honest i don't like black metal too much, except for Dimmu Borgir, if they qualify. Celtic Frost are great, they can qualify as black metal can they? |

Why does everyone hate Cradle of Filth? I mean, they technically arent that great like AT ALL, but the shows are very loud and interactive and Dani is quite amusing. lol. I mean, its been brought up like three or four times on this thread for no reason.
