The only influence I hear in their early stuff is maybe punk rock to tell you the truth. Other than that, they've always been 100% original AC/DC rock and roll. Unique unto themselves. I remember reading a quote from Angus Young once where he said: "People ask us why we don't try to 'progress' with each new album and try new things. That's stupid. Most bands who try to 'progress' end up progressing right up their a$$!" LOL. |

As for the punk influence, AC/DC were around at least a couple of years before what is known as punk reared its head in 1976 and had already established their sound. Even then the punk influence on AC/DC is not really that noticeable compared to some bands, for example Paul D`Anna era Iron Maiden has a distinctly punk sounding influence especially in the vocal delivery. |

Alright, I'm thinking of getting a few ACDC albums and was curious mostly to what is thought as the best year remaster to get.
I think there are three, 1990, 1994, and 2003. Someone told me that 94 is not remastered but was just a reissue, is that true? Also heard that 2003's were compressed to hell. Added question: what's your fav AcDc album? |
I think Let There Be Rock is their best release. Scott spits venom the whole record and many of Youngs best riffs are on here. While Youngs riffs are often boring, that is not the case for this album. They have power backing them up.

What do you guys think are the three best Brian Johnson era albums?
Two best Bon Scott era albums? |
awesome group, i got nearly all their songs.
best album is either Highway to Hell or Back in Black, depends who you like more, Brian or Bon |
I used to be a big fan but now I'm really over them. They don't sound as good as I thought.
|
So what did you guys think about Black Ice?
|
I find AC/DC the most boring band in the world. Even when I've told myself to lower my expectations to a bare minimum... they still put me to sleep.
And as for the Led Zeppelin comparisons... comparing AC/DC to Led Zeppelin is like comparing King Crimson to the Monks. |

some of my metal friends used to hate AC/DC. Then i started playing album cuts they had never heard. Squeeler, Go Down, Night Prowler, well, pretty much all of Powerage...
now they love 'em too. |
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap...
AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd charged with attempting to procure murder | Music | The Guardian :yikes: |
UMM, he tried to hire someone to murder someone else. Yikes.
|
What a moron. He's in AC/DC, he could have just said '**** this guy' and the die hard fans would take care of the rest.
|
Looks like the procurement charge was dropped...

I smell a PR stunt, done dirt cheap.

Rock 'n' Ready!
AC/DC at their peak, with "Highway To Hell" and "Back In Black", are wonderful. Always a rich full sound, meaty driving rock, with no bull****, no pretention, they never pander to trends or try to do a ballad or experimental stuff or whatever. They just stick to their unreconstructed, uncompromised, almost uncouth rock 'n' roll, straight from the heart, mean, well hard, mighty magic. Angus is simply ROCK, Bon Scott was a man-slut sleeze squeeze with one of the best rock voices ever, Brian Johnson screams and shouts his guts out, pure passion, the band always plods along with a majorly addictive groove.
Fun, life affirming, refreshing, epic, they're the best at what they do. |
I am proud to say that the very first concert I ever attended was AC/DC. When I was in 7th grade (1990), I wrote a letter to my aunt stating that the best Christmas gift I could ever receive is going to the AC/DC show that upcoming November at the Met Center in Minnesota (Met Center is no longer in existence). Sure enough, a few days before the concert, she drove two hours to pick me up unannounced and drove me to the Twin Cities suburb on concert night. She listened to stuff like Indigo Girls, so AC/DC was definitely not her band of choice and she hated city driving, but she went out of her way to provide one of my best memories ever. She also somehow got us main floor tickets only 13 rows back and smack dab in the middle so pretty much the best seats possible. They put on an outstanding show, of course. Even my aunt was entertained by Angus.

My father basically raised me on 24/7 AC/DC, it's literally all he listened to, Back In Black and Highway to Hell have been the only CDs in his car for almost 10 years. I'm heading to my hometown after my shift today to start restoring my truck with him, going to blast those two albums the whole way there, ultimate dad rock, untouchable.

For many people AC/DC are a bridge between Classic Rock and Metal. I like their early stuff.
Especially Sin City. |
An update on Malcolm's health, I wish I had better news but he is in the land of the living
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcol...ealth_problems I will continue to keep my best thoughts for Malcolm |

I think Back in Black was awesome, and most of their early stuff was either hit or miss. The best early album was Dirty Deeds. |
Hmmm I've always wanted to try and rank my favourite AC/DC albums.
1. Highway to Hell 2. Powerage 3. High Voltage 4. Jailbreak ep 5. Back n Black 6. For Those about to Rock 7. Let there be rock 8. If you want blood you got it 9. Fly on the Wall 10. The Razor's edge 11. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap 12. Blow up you video 13. Flick o the Switch 14. Everything 95 & after (the we stuck around too long albums) |
|
At this point. Are there still people that want to see a Brianless, malcomless, Ruddless ACDC? Hang it the hell up already.
|
Who'd want to see a Bon Scottless AC/DC? I agree with hanging it up, it's not like their music isn't ever going to be covered.

Finding myself flip flopping between Powerage and Highway to Hell right now. Both albums are fantastic, and I'd say Highway to Hell wins in the songwriting, groove, and production department, literally every track is an anthem, but Powerage has an ugly aggression, bite, and edge to it that gets my blood flowing just a bit more violently than most tracks on Highway to Hell. I think Beating Around the Bush would have fit into Powerage quite well, right next to Riff Raff.

Also, Nirvana is plenty talented, but I wasn't comparing their musical quality only their amount of people posing as fans. I like ACDC more than them on a song to song basis but Nirvana has a ton of dope tunes too! |
