Both charlie and nick are very understated drummers. not a lot of flash-in-the-pan with either of them, but they both have their beginnings as jazz drummers, and I have a feeling that there's more to what there capable of than what's on display on their respective records.

I'm not saying they're bad drummers at all.

Indeed I do consider Nick Mason to be a very underrated drummer.

This is a clip from Live at Pompeli. At 4:34 you see Mason drop a drumstick but he quickly grabs another and stays on beat. Now that's class.

I think the fact that Floyd were not classically trained musicians (with the exception of Wright) is what set them apart from the other prog bands, because they took the same concepts and brought it down to a more accessible and cohesive level.

Waters has this really beautiful quote.

"The better musician you are the, harder it is not to imitate someone. We didn't imitate anybody because we couldn't imitate anybody."

Of course Moon wasn't a technical titan either, so that's not my point. Moon was sloppy but it was his fire and energy that made him impossible to ignore, in that sense I consider him the Hendrix of drummers.

Good analogy of Moon and for that reason alone he does stand unique.

I think of Peart as a consumate sticksman, accurate and professional in every sense and the yardstick of all drummers.

Nick Mason very underrated as is was Ian Paice in his day.

Eh, Ian Paice is very highly rated. I've seen him in the top ten of many drummers lists.

Maybe I`ve been looking on the wrong lists but anyway I hold him in high regard as a drummer.

Still, you have to really have it out against Moon if you consider Charlie Watts and Nick Mason to be better drummers.

Nick Mason over Keith Moon? That's insane.

yeah I guess you're right. Mason and Moon are like comparing apples and oranges. It's just that I like Pink Floyd much more then the Who, its more my opinion of taste then judging them on pure talent.

I am just a Rolling Stones fan, what can I say, so course I'll pick Charlie Watts over Keith Moon, that done automatically. I heard Pete Townshend say everything Keith Moon did on the drum was funny (paraphrasing what he said) I don't find humor in Moon's playing, but I find Charlie Watts drumming a bit humorous, I love Charlie Watts, he's a solid drummer.

Keith Richards gave one of the greatest compliments anyone could give a drummer he said Charlie has perfect timing he exits a song at the same tempo he enters a song, something rarely any drummer does.

I absolutely hate Rush, so this goes to Moon in my mind. Besides I like the raw style of Moon to Peart.

Speaking of dropping a drumstick (well more breaking one), check this out.

Have never paid much attention to the drumming in Rush, probably because I don't have any of their music. I can't stand the singer's voice, so that gets in the way of enjoying their music. I know they are a good band though. Keith Moon on the other hand is a phenomenal drummer. Play Quadrophenia, and tell me who can play like that.

Neil is brilliant technically. and Keith is the only drummer who played the drums like they were a lead instrument.
